Every 3K for me or if the little "Change Oil" thing pops up...which ever is first. The little indicator pops up at about 2700. All of my automobiles I have changed the oil at 3000 miles.

Back when I had my old Charger, I used 50W oil. That did come in a cardboard like can...no plastic bottle.

I thought one of the pros about synthic oil is that you could go more miles without getting the oil changed and do no damage to the engine. Why are you changing it every 3 - 4K miles? Does that kinda defeat the purpose of using a synthic oil? Or are you doing it just because of the old 3000 rule?

UMMM Somewhere between 3,000 and 6,000 miles. I know bad me not having a specific length but hey a lot depends on how hard I have been driving since the last one, how busy I am, and whether I feel like it today.
BTW with over 42,000 on it and it being 19 months old I would go broke if I did not let it go a little longer.

Hi! So far I change her oil every 3000 miles and I do use Mobil 1 EP 5W20 and a Mobil 1 filter. My Jeep Service Manager has convinced me to only change the oil every 6000 miles as he knows the type of driving I typically do and says the 6K interval is fine. I guess I'll start taking his advice soon. I didn't start using the fully synthetic lube for it's extended change interval but for the high and low temp properties that synthetics (all brands) are known to have. Full synthetics are used in fighter jets and I'm pretty sure (Ha, Ha) that I don't push my JK anywhere even close to the lowest / easiest parameters that they see!! Just piece of mind and "because I want to" sums it up. Take care... Mike

Why? Because it's unnecessary, costs more, and is a waste!

http://3000milemyth.org/

I use Mobil 1 synth, changed first at ~5000km, will change every 10000km from now on.

No point in changing it more often, especially synth.

Just like I ask the "K&N Filters let through more dirt" arguers:
How often have you heard of engine failures because "I changed my oil every 10k instead of every 5k..."???

I sure haven't.

EDIT: Here's an article where they use Mobil 1 Synth for 18,000 miles.

Why are people changing oil so often? The book says 6,000 miles. My indicator light comes on between 5,800~6,400...and all indicator lights I've ever seen come on with a minimum of 25% oil life left.

I've got a relative that's been a Ford mechanic for 20+ years now. His stance is that if a manufacturer says 3,000, you can easily go 5,000. And think about it...the original 3,000 was a 'standard' established when? The 50's or 60's or earlier? If those cars with poor manufacturing quality were designed to hold up to 3,000 miles...and cars are manufactured so much better today...don't you think 3,000 is a little out dated and influenced by the oil company wanting to sell more oil?

Do you think the engine on your JK is manufactured as well as a BMW built engine manufactured in 1990? They recommended oil changes every 15,000 miles then and their cars are still on the road.

Granted our off roading and dirty trail conditions contribute to harder usage and dirtier oil, but 3,000 is way too frequent.

I will stick to the manufacturers recommendation of around every 6,000 based on a couple days off road per month combined with my every day highway/city driving. This keeps me qualified for my lifetime powertrain warranty, and keeps them on the hook if anything serious should ever happen.

According to owners manual every 6k oil is to be changed.

According to my dealer...every 3000 miles...but every other oil change that I do with them is free...So it is a bunch of BS...They prolly don't even change the oil when I bring it in...and just wait till I come back in 3000 miles and pay for it...

Just another BS marketing gimmick

Amazon Prime . Com Royal Purple is like $72 for a case! Great deal. I use K&N Filters @ about $ 11 a piece. I change about every 4 -5 K depending on if I've been off road alot or not.

I don't keep my vehicles long enough ( 5-7 yrs. max. ) to justify that cost.

Of course you want to change it early for its first oil change but after that your good to go. Over all the cost is about the same as doing conventional every 3k...just less work.
I use amsoil with their filter as well. Once a year.
