They just opened a carmax in my town this past weekend all the cars on the lot are shit boxes with a shit ton of miles and they want a boat load of $my for them...a 2005 wrangler with 112,000 for $16000 and the salesman seemed like rats but then again aren't they all

I recently took both of my vehicle Im trading in on my 2012 and they offered me 20% less than what the dealership is giveing me. Plus I wouldn't get the tax break. If ur just getting rid of it, sell it your self.
My pick up I am selling has a blue book balue of $15,600. and auction value of $12,000. and carmax offered me 9000. NOT!!!
I'm getting $20,000 for my jeep and they offered me $16,000. NOT!!!!

Carmax will only give you the amount (or less) you would get as a trade-in from the dealer, basically wholesale value. You would lose the big tax advantage if you were to sell it outright vs trading it in. If you plan on buying a new vehicle, don't use Carmax or you should sell it yourself for maximum $$$. It may be more hassle, but you will get more money.
