+1. Jeeps take us to places where other vehicles simply cannot, just as airboats can navigate to places where other boats fail (marshes, swamps, & even dry land!). They are no-frills, purpose-built machines.

There have been Jeeps with pontoons. Yes, even JKs. I'm on phone or I'd find a pic. But, my answer to OP's question uses his logic, but just updated. And with more cool factor and chick appeal. Kayak. You'd take a kayak down the Gunnison through the Black, but would probably die in a canoe (okay, I'm not that skilled in a kayak so would die anyway!).
