Default Is this illegal?

Ihave a Utah license plate ont front of JK and was pulled over by a police officer the other day. No ticket but did tell me my Utah plate was illegal. In TN, we dont have to have a front license plate, and there are no stickers on the UT plate. I see lots of cars riding around with various states on the front( old states they lived in and loved). With no registraion stickers or even me having never even registered the tag (bought it at a touristy store in Moab) isnt this just a vanity plate?

Do you live in UT or TN?

If you live in UT then it's completely legal. If you live in TN and have Utah plates it's illegal and fine-able.

I do live in tennessee and that is a stupid law and no one should be selling "souvenir" license plates. That sucks. I love my UT tag

Definitely illegal. I assume you have a Tennessee one on the rear, but I cannot recall ever hearing of anyone running plates from two different States (regardless if one is fake).

I don't think that many people run the plates they buy in a souveneir shop on their vehicles. They are designed to be hung on a wall, etc... this is completely illegal, and if I were a cop it would be very confusing not knowing what plate belongs to the Jeep. In Iowa we need a front plate, along with Montana and Idaho, and in all of these states I have lived in I have never had a sticker on the front plate for registration, only the rear, so the stickers are not very rellevant.

Why is it a stupid law? The plates are there to indicate that your vehicle is legal. Putting expired expired tags from your home or any other states obfuscates the legality of your jeep.

Hang your UT tag in the garage.

I don't think it's legal, however, you are not the only on that I've ever seen do that. One of the guys that I work with is running his old Alabama tag on the front of his truck because it is a personalized Auburn University tag and you can't get Auburn tags personalized in GA. Again, probably not legal, but I think it just depends on the cop and how pissed off he is that day.

Don't know a thing about the legality of it, but it made me laugh.
I'd love to NOT have to run a front plate out here.

Yup, it would be illegal across Canada too. You are running a fake plate and falsely identifying your vehicle. It's illegal and that's that
