Wow! I went out of town on business for a few days and come back to full on debate. Thanks for ALL the input. Some were helpful. Spoke to a retired local judge the other day (he was a TN judge) who told me he would probably laugh this off if it came across his bench. Sorry for those of you in UT who thought I was in some super new jeepin spot. I guess I'll just take it off but it has always been a good conversation piece.

That's assuming the cops are right-- sometimes they are not. I got a ticket for "parking" in a loading zone. The cop thought he knew the law and gave me a ticket, but I looked up the law and compared what I did to what was actually written in the code. I did not violate it. I fought it and won. I knew the code because the cop wrote it on the ticket and that's why I was able to research it and see if I was truly in violation, which I was not.

I betchya it's not the first time a cop misunderstood the law, either. Now I'm not suggesting that the particular cop who warned the OP was incorrect about the law but, regardless of what a cop says, I think it's always best to check the law for yourself to determine whether or not you actually violated it.
