I'm embarassed to admit this...
I could give a flying poo about the FJ. But when it comes to those surveys....................Most Honda and Toyota owners will never admit they are not happy even if they aren't. Think about it. They spend 30% more for the initial purchase, twice as much for the maintenance, and within 5 years, most are rusting somewhere. They would have to admit that they are not as smart a purchaser as they would like everyone to think they are. Granted most are a good vehicle, but most owners have an eliteist attitude like they are somehow smarter than the domestic owners so they will continue to praise their Toyota even if they have had two transmissions and an engine like my mother in law's 42K mile Camry. What a P.O.S.

I know people with toyota's that rusted out and are always getting fixed after a few years and others who have 200K + and cant kill them if they tried... but I can the same thing about Jeeps... I think its just the luck of the draw sometimes

Sorry for the rant but it just makes me made when people lump the two together just because they are Japenese companies when in my opinion one is vastly superior than the other.
I'll probably really get bashed but...
We've pretty much had them all. We've had nothing but great luck with Toyota's and Honda's and the BEST service and lack of issues with our Acura. In fact, I've had more issues in the first 3 months with my Jeep than our last three Acura/Toyota/Honda vehicles during their lives combined.
Don't get me wrong - we love our Jeep but we also checked out the FJ. Albeit for about 1 question...can it be towed with all 4 down...the dealer said no - that was pretty much it!
Add to that the lack of removable top and the rest all fell to the wayside too.
No embarrassment here - I think you should shop to get the most for your dollar and functional requirements.

I probably should not lump Toyota and Honda together. Agreed. In fact most of what I have been referring to is about Toyota owners based on my own experience and those of close family members.
I have owned both foriegn and domestic........ Ford(8) ,Dodge(1), Chevy(7), GMC(9), Nissan(1), Toyota(1),Harleys(2) and now my JK. The best most reliable was a 97 nissan 4cyl truck. The worst was a Toyota 4cyl truck. What a P.O.S.
The thread was about two surveys and I think surveys are worthless. As is "studies show" 2 parent families, smoking, blah, blah, blah. Ninety nine percent of the studies and surveys already know what they want the answers/results to be before they even start.

Also, ever wonder why the Honda and Toyotas are better in gas mileage. It must be magic, right? Actually the metal thickness used in the unibodies of the Japanesse cars are significantly thinner (weigh less) than the american cars. It puzzles me how they pass safety inspections.
Back on topic......FORD is going to buy Jeep once Chrysler goes out of business, not Toyota so you can continue to buy whichever one you want.
Interesting. In the rustbelt (where you apparently live) the honda's rust to pieces.

Is Ford really going to buy Jeep? If so, where'd you find that nugget of info? I hope that's not true, or else we'll be able to throw "electrical gremlins" into the list of frequently-occurring problems that Jeeps have...
