I could give a flying poo about the FJ. But when it comes to those surveys....................Most Honda and Toyota owners will never admit they are not happy even if they aren't. Think about it. They spend 30% more for the initial purchase, twice as much for the maintenance, and within 5 years, most are rusting somewhere. They would have to admit that they are not as smart a purchaser as they would like everyone to think they are. Granted most are a good vehicle, but most owners have an eliteist attitude like they are somehow smarter than the domestic owners so they will continue to praise their Toyota even if they have had two transmissions and an engine like my mother in law's 42K mile Camry. What a P.O.S.

Don't know where you are getting your info but you seem slightly prejudiced against anything not built here (even though most of those Toyotas and Hondas you refer to are built here.........by Americans!). I buy Toyota trucks for my business (Tacomas........lots and lots of them) because they are price competitive, get better mileage, don't cost any more to maintain, hold their value better and are absolutely BULLETPROOF. If my guys can't destroy a vehicle, it can't be destroyed. Several of the Tacomas have achieved 300,000+ miles without major repair. Typically, they don't go back to a dealer for warranty work at all. And even though I live in New Hampshire (the snow and salt capital of the entire civilized world), they don't rust. Can't comment on Camrys............never owned one but my Tacomas, the wife's Echo and my son-in-law's Accord and my brother's Element have all been great vehicles.

ditto... I've only owned one overpriced Japanese vehicle and it was the most unreliable pos I've ever owned. I've owned 2 Cherokees, 1 GC and now a JK and all have been much more reliable than the Nissan. Nobody ever contacted me for their "reliability surveys"... sounds like lots of others out there having experiences like mine.

Don't lump Hondas and Toyotas in the same category, every Toyota (2 Camerys & 1 pickup) my family has owned was spewing oil all over the garage floor by the time they had 75,000 on them and had multiple other mechanical problems, I'll never by another Toyota. I have never had a problems my wife's Hondas (Civic, Accord, & Odessey) when we went to traded in our Accord our salesman offered to buy it, it was in great condition with over 100,000 miles on it. I have also loved the reliability of my Chrysler products (2 Dakotas & now on my 2nd Wrangler)

Sorry for the rant but it just makes me made when people lump the two together just because they are Japenese companies when in my opinion one is vastly superior than the other.

Default Given the way this thread is going...

I'll probably really get bashed but...

We've pretty much had them all. We've had nothing but great luck with Toyota's and Honda's and the BEST service and lack of issues with our Acura. In fact, I've had more issues in the first 3 months with my Jeep than our last three Acura/Toyota/Honda vehicles during their lives combined.

Don't get me wrong - we love our Jeep but we also checked out the FJ. Albeit for about 1 question...can it be towed with all 4 down...the dealer said no - that was pretty much it!

Add to that the lack of removable top and the rest all fell to the wayside too.

No embarrassment here - I think you should shop to get the most for your dollar and functional requirements.

I probably should not lump Toyota and Honda together. Agreed. In fact most of what I have been referring to is about Toyota owners based on my own experience and those of close family members.

I have owned both foriegn and domestic........ Ford(8) ,Dodge(1), Chevy(7), GMC(9), Nissan(1), Toyota(1),Harleys(2) and now my JK. The best most reliable was a 97 nissan 4cyl truck. The worst was a Toyota 4cyl truck. What a P.O.S.

The thread was about two surveys and I think surveys are worthless. As is "studies show" 2 parent families, smoking, blah, blah, blah. Ninety nine percent of the studies and surveys already know what they want the answers/results to be before they even start.

Interesting. In the rustbelt (where you apparently live) the honda's rust to pieces.

Also, ever wonder why the Honda and Toyotas are better in gas mileage. It must be magic, right? Actually the metal thickness used in the unibodies of the Japanesse cars are significantly thinner (weigh less) than the american cars. It puzzles me how they pass safety inspections.

Back on topic......FORD is going to buy Jeep once Chrysler goes out of business, not Toyota so you can continue to buy whichever one you want.

I live in the rustbelt, and I haven't seen a Honda OR Toyota OR Nissan OR Mazda rust out since the 80's...

Is Ford really going to buy Jeep? If so, where'd you find that nugget of info? I hope that's not true, or else we'll be able to throw "electrical gremlins" into the list of frequently-occurring problems that Jeeps have...
