I'm embarassed to admit this...
I live in the rustbelt, and I haven't seen a Honda OR Toyota OR Nissan OR Mazda rust out since the 80's...
Is Ford really going to buy Jeep? If so, where'd you find that nugget of info? I hope that's not true, or else we'll be able to throw "electrical gremlins" into the list of frequently-occurring problems that Jeeps have...

Throwing in my spare change.
Owned a 99 Tacoma Ext Cab. 2.7 I4, 5spd TRD 4x4. I LOVED that thing. Bullet proof. My father in law has it now.
Owned a 03 Tacoma Crew Cab. V6 and all the whistles...went through rotors like crazy....got rid of that for my wifes 06 TJ Unlimited.
For the record, the FJ doesn't require premium fuel. I thought that very thing, but apparently its wrong, I found several places that said thats a false statement. You CAN run Regular Fuel in a FJ.
Now with all that being said. We own two Jeeps. The TJ and my JK and my Camaro sits in the garage. The Jeeps are way more fun then any vehicle we have owned.
Being able to CHOOSE a vehicle you want is what is great about this country.
This country needed the imports to make the domestic companies kick up their quality. And it worked. They are and continue to get better...
Ok...my change has run out.

It's real easy to bash other mfrs. Especially when some of you have had no personal owning experience. I've owned a dodge durango my 07 JK Sahara and about 5-6 Toyotas.
The durango was ok not as reliable as a toyota and dodge service was the worst. the Toyotas ran between 44000-125000 miles EACH with just ROUTINE MANTENANCE before I decided I wanted a new car look.
I don't think thats gonna happen with my JK.
Chrysler makes the best looking cars , but not the best built.
This "brand " muscle flexing is just stupid. I hold no loyalty to no stupid vehicle mfr. I just want the best bang for my buck.

I have no personal experience with Toyota myself, but figure they are doing something right. It was more than just propaganda that saw to their exploding marketshare. They have had some problems, and continue to have some problems along the way, but an awful lot of people are buying them, and going back and buying more. Aside from the odd bad apple, if they really were building junk, their 'share would be on the decline. It takes people a while to discover who is making good cars, but they can smell a bad one fairly quickly.
As for Jeep, I am yet to get a JK (researching now), but had a TJ for 5 years. It had little problems, rear wiper switch broke, the front tie rod ball joints wore out, little annoyances. However, no part that failed ever cost more than $25 or so, and all could be replaced within an hour by myself.
The JK, from what I have found so far, has suffered a lot of new design and new factory teething issues. Hopefully '08 will see them get cleared up for good.
AS for the main topic... the FJ... I thought I liked it. Went to look at it. Sat in it. New I hated it. I couldn't stand the seating position. I felt like I was laying down in it, and had to sit a mile from the dash so my legs had sufficient room to be stretched out. Ergonomically it just didn't fit my height.
