Nice to have a large platform that fits in the trunk space. The extra few inch raise makes a huge difference in the jack height. I prefer not to take a couple 2x6's out on trail runs. Big piece of plastic that works awesome

 

Honestly yes a couple blocks of wood could be used to lift the jack. However, the AEV jack base locks onto the jack which means that it shouldn't slip. It fits neatly into the storage space in the back so it wont roll around while wheeling. For the price it really is nice.
