I haven't pulled the trigger on LED headlight replacements, mainly because of a few reviews that said that snow ice or sleet builds up on them and makes them inoperable.

But if Jeep is willing to install these from the factory maybe it's not really that big of an issue after all.

With any luck they'll be backward compatible.

Since during an ice storm your local news service is reporting that local highway patrol is telling you to stay home, it's a non-issue for Jeep's engineers and marketers. Now, whether you happen to be where that advice is practical or not depends on exactly what you do with your Jeep. Anyone who says it's a non-issue hasn't experienced serious ice. It is, even with incandescent lights, much less unheated LED lights.

You can build your Jeep to stay home ...

Thanks for the photos Mark.

With that kind of ice I don't think LED headlights will do you any good, in my particular case my Jeep is a daily driver and I live in Rhode Island, I have never seen ice build up like you have in that first pic.

My concern is driving home in snow or sleet that we typically get locally, what I do know is I was driving home the other night and almost hit a deer because I couldn't see it with my crappy stock headlights.

We are planning a cross-country trip in the next couple of weeks so I may pull the trigger on an upgraded set of headlights possibly JW speakers.

I love that second photo, Mark. I bet you're glad you took the time for the shot.

The first shot reminds me of an "incident" where my friend did that to his father's police cruiser. It was below freezing, his Dad was sleeping, and he kept hosing down the cruiser throughout the night. His father was pissed when he left for work the next morning but got many chuckles out of it over the years.

It also looks like it took it toll on some of the neighbor's trees. Ice is heavy.

It was pure chance. Wife of the fellow who drives (drove since he sold it) white Defender in my videos happened on me one Sunday after the storm. I was headed out to shoot the storm results, so they followed me in her JKU. It is her shot.

Ah. Right place, right time.

I envisioned you stopping after seeing all the crystals on the sides.
