So, I have 29K on my JKU and have just put the first set of front pads and the second set of rear pads on.

I believe one of the reasons they don't last very long isI do a lot of sand and mud trails, it's Florida go figure.

That takes a toll on the pads.

What can we do about it short of spending a lot of cash on a big brake set up?

Different pads would eat the rotors.

It is very easy to replace them, so I will probubly just keep putting them in.

 

honestly i dont see this as a problem, they are doing their job and just wearing down as pads, they shouldnt be too expensive on the stock caliper size, like you said yould be much worse off if they ate up your rotors. on a + side you have no labor cost since they are right there and it sounds like you can easily change them yourself, you may even get a discount for buying a case of pads bulk? they would have a good shelf life kept indoors out of direct sunlight!

 

I'm about to put my second set of rear pads on as soon as they get here this week. I have 17k miles on my jk and live in Florida as well. Yeah they down last very long at all.

 

I also do not see what the big deal is. I usually go to auto zone and buy the nicer pads with the lifetime warranty when I need pads. Then I usually get them replaced every time I need new pad through the warranty. Never had a prob. Easy enough maintenence.

Some of those "lifetime" warranties are life of the item, not the vehicle. Read the specific warranty carefully. It it reads "full, unlimited warranty", you're golden--that is written into federal law. But I've never seen brake pads with that warranty.

after some more reading, it would seem the rear pads get the worst of it because the 2 wheel drive traction control abuses them, aka if you like to spin out and stuff, youll burn your rear pads up alot....

4wd im sure traction control is again going to sit there and granny you on the brakes when youre in the mud/sand/snow spinning wheels.

if you have traction control and find you are going through brake pads too fast, turn it off
