Default JK burning issue...

I have only had my JK off road a few times to this point and plan to go again this weekend. I have been reading on the forum about JK's burning and obviously have a concern for the issue.

I have heard a few people speculate that the casue is debris stuck between the auto transmission and the protective plate.

I have noticed that when I am leaving the trails I can smell something that seems to be burning. I always clean up the next day and really clean under there, but I am concerned about having my family in the vehicle driving home.

Does anybody else expierence what I am talking about and what do you do to prevent this from actually burning? Last time I went 4 wheeling I had a 20 mile ride home and it stunk but it was not an issue, but I am concerned about longer trips.

Any thoughts?

I've smelt a burning odor while at a traffic light when driving to work at 2 AM in the morning. It's always at the same light and nowhere else, so I don't worry about it. I've driven several thousand miles since and no fire yet.

I wouldn't think mud would be an issue... are you driving through taller grass though??

just the cooking mud can give off a good burnt smell, the more organics in the mud, the greater the stink.

My JK overheats just about everytime I'm off road. It's at the dealership again right now for that problem. I've found that the burning smell is the coolant boiling out of the reservoir, spilling onto the hot whatever below and then burning off.

If that is true it amkes me feel better. The last time we went we were plowing through corn fields and I would assume that that mud there was very "organic".
