Default JK Delays

People,

I have not had a good chance to review every posting on this great forum page, and this area seems to be the best place to ask this quesiton so please bare with me...

I am seriously considering purchasing a new (2008) JK Rubicon Unlimited.

I have been looking around the net and have been to one dealership to talk to a salesman and test drive a JK.

A question I have for this group is what is the word about why there aren't many Rubicon Ulimiteds available?

Also, I can't find any Rubicons with the Khaki interior. What is the deal with that?

One more thing... If I order one, is 6-8 months the typical wait time?

Thanks for any response.

You have come to a great place to find information. I have gotten lots of great help from the people on this forum. yes I have heard many stories of people waiting 6-8 months for a Rubicon Unlimited They say its worth the wait. Personnally I have been waiting since feb 28 for my rubicon unlimited.

On a happier note some people have gotten them much sooner. there are many variables. this thread https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/show...highlight=2008 will give you lots of insight on the wait and how to find information.

Good luck

I waited 6 months for my 07 -4 door Rubicon Unlimited...
I ordered it with every option but sattlelight radio and ther just weren't any around.
...Plus I specifically wanted black

It was a long long time - but well worth the wait

I am not sure what to say about your interior issue...
Good luck.

Thanks for the help so far.

If I get one, it will be the third I have owned. I kick myself as hard as I can for ever getting rid of the first two.

Do you think ordering is the best option?

Do we know why Jeep incorporates all the delays?

Thanks again.

Around a 1000 orders a day, around 600 built a day 57 of which are rubis.

Someone chime in if this info is wrong, but there is a long thread here somewhere if you want to read through it.

Demand is strong. You can shop dealers for 08's, they "are" on the lots. May or may not have colors options you are after.

And I think 10 mon. is the wait time now, but plenty have gotten thiers sooner so who knows. Big long formula for dealership allocation, where you live, etc. etc. 2 door 4 door on and on.

Yes, they're averaging over 1000 new orders/day. They were building 583/day working 2 9-hour/6-day shifts a week. ToledoJeep says they're going to 10-hour shifts starting today, so that should bring production up to ~655 a day. That will make a combined average build time of 12 to 13 weeks for all JK models (X's and Sahara's quicker, Rubi's longer). Still won't be enough to keep up with incoming orders.

There are over 12000 Wrangler Rubicon orders, and they were only building 57 a day. That makes it a 35 week (8 to 9 month) average wait time to get an ordered Rubi. Hopefully they'll be able to squeeze out a few more Rubicons a day now, but that has everything to do with the Rubi-specific parts suppliers who have been unable to go any faster, and little to do with the number of hours they work a day.

Rubicon Unlimited's have been taking the longest, many as long as 10 months. So, if you want a Rubi equipped exactly how you like, place an order and be prepared to wait anywhere from 5 to 10 months. You should be able to get a sizable price discount (often near invoice) for an order, which kind of offsets the pain of waiting. And, you may be one of the lucky few who miraculously gets their's in only a few months.

Or, you can just try to find a Rubi on dealer lots using the Jeep.com dealer search feature. You probably won't find one equipped exactly how you want, but close. Eventually. You'll also pay more for it buying off the dealer lot, because they are so hard to come by they command a price premium.

Or, you can do a combination of both. Order one, and search the dealer inventories in case you find one suitable. Make sure your dealer writes "Refundable Deposit" on your Buyer's Order paperwork when you order the Rubi. That way if you find one on a lot later you'll have no hassles getting your money back. That dealer shouldn't have a problem anyway, since they'll be able to sell your ordered Rubi quickly when it comes in, for more money than they were going to sell it to you for...so it's a win-win.

So if one doesn't order in the next couple weeks, they might just be ordering an '09!?!?

Short answer: Yes.

IF demand remains constant above capacity.

AND IF they remain unable to increase Rubicon build capacity.

THEN there will be a cut-off point where they will be unable to fill the 2008 orders, which will then be rolled-over into 2009 orders.

This is exactly what happened to ten's of thousands of 2007 orders.

Thanks for all of the information. You could be full of crap and I would never know, but for some reason I trust you, besides, what have you got to gain?

I have asked the dealer to check into it for me and they are supposed to get back to me tomorrow.

I know of a Jeep dealership that is like "Wrangler HQ" around here. Do you think I should order through them since they might have a better "dealer allocation" than the dealership closer to me?

Thanks again for all of the great info.

Here is a link to another thread that has good information and links to toledo news articles that are very informative https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/jk-talk-26/2008-rubicon-delays-14004/

I wish you luck and hope you don't have to wait long.
If you prepare yourself for a 10 month wait and it comes in early life will be easier during the wait. trust me
