Default JK on Fire

has anyone heard of what jeeps fix is for prevention of jk's going up in flames, in australia we have had a few go up and the drivers have been lucky to escape, so far I have had my water pump and now have had to get sump gasket replaced, unfortunately I have hardly had it offroad but the last time i did I noticed that I had a very hot gearbox (auto ) even though I was travelling at pretty low revs offriad, I told my dealer and they pretty much brushed me. Apparently this has happened in the states any feedback on what the take on it over there was would be appreciated thanks

It has to do with the over flow tube on the automatic trans, when the trans gets hot, and the fluid over flows it drips on to the exhuast and whoof on fire, as far as DC fixing it, I think they said there was nothing wrong and that it was a freak thing. BUT.... I think the problem was corrected in 08. I think thats right somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.

I believe it is the 09's that has the change. The 07's and 08's autos are potential firebombs. The suspect is the transmission overflow however in some cases it could have been the amount of brush and such caught in the undercarrage (thus DC's denial). DC has not admitted any problem or that there is any potential for fires in the JK's. They have treated it like a non-event just like the stall bug was untill finally there was enough complaints/events where it happened and then they admit there is a problem and fix it.

Personally I watch things like a hawk and recomend anyone who uses the jeep hard and would have potential for a hot transmission get a transmission cooler installed at the very least. I also don't offroad hard like some do however heavy traffic, towing, and such can also cause heat and in one case it seems like there was no reason for it.

I cannot believe that jeep are not doing something about this, one guy down under said that he he barely got out of his car let alone time to get his extinguisher. With summer just round the corner in australia I dont think it will be the last as every man and his dog hits the beach or bush for a spin. Hate to see how hard it will be to get away when your car goes up in long dry grass, its one thing to get out of the car but to get to safety is another, I have 60 acres that backs onto another couple of hundred and come summer it all becomes pretty dry. This is my first Jeep and I reckon probably my last if something isnt done.

I do believe the fire takes awhile so people should be able to get out in time.

One guy said he had to jump through flames to get out. But yes, he survived, so you could say he got out in time.
