Question JK with shot engine value?

Well at about 80k my 2010 with the 3.8 just spun a bearing. It wasn't neglected or anything, just hit a steep uphill and downshifted into 2nd and bang. Outside of trying to get a personal loan for a new engine as I don't have that kind of cash laying around my other thought since it's paid for is to just sell it as a project and get a new ride. Other than the motor it's in great shape. What kind of price would you guys think I could get for it?

Without a motor it's going to cost anyone at least $3-5k to get it back to running shape so I'd ballpark the value and then drop the price to reflect needing a new motor. It sucks but it's where you are. The alternative option would be to get a used motor from eBay or something and swap that in. You may be able to get it done for a cheap enough price that you could sell it and be alright. I guess it depends on what you want to achieve with the pickle you're in.

I have a 3.8 with 88k on it. Sell it for 300 if you want it.

Only 80k on a 2010 model? I wonder if you could drop a re-manufactured 3.6 in it and save $$ from anything similar, and running, from anything on a used lot full of JKs. Unless you want to upgrade,of course, but even at 80k with a "new" engine you should come out ahead by about 5k or so. Something to think about. Having said that, this is all Region and Demand dependent, and your Jeep's overall condition.

That is harder than you think. But it can be done with a great deal odd research.

IMO.. check the salvage yard network in your area.. There was (years ago) a very reputable yard in the Cookville area.. They have networks and locators so they could find a complete engine. Many will sell multiple time frame guarantees to go with engines & transmissions.

It sounds like you don't have a lot of cash so your options will be limited. Maybe you have a friend that can help you out that knows how to do this. If you know how to work on cars, you can get a used engine from a salvage yard with a 30 day warranty pretty cheap. Most of them will install it as well, for a cost of course. I have done this with engines and transmissions. Selling the jeep may be your only option and even then you may not get the kind of car you want. Good luck!
