Default Jk or TJ

What are you guys opinions on this. I tried searching but it wont work for me.

What are your opinions. Would like to hear from those who had a TJ and went for a JK etc. The reason im asking is i saw a bunch of both JK and TJs today and i really like the looks of both, more so the TJ but the TJ isn't as comfortable as the JK. So i was just wondering what you guys opinions are on this issue. Thanks.

Both Jeeps are great...depends on your budget, what's important to you and what you want to do with it. Also, what TJ's are available.

I loved my TJ (bought it as a new 97/had it 12 years). Driving that after being in some YJ's was a huge progression/evolution in on road/DD manners.

To me my JK is a continuation of this. JK is definitely more car like on road (take that as you may) & less rough around the edges.
For example, some people hate the power windows/locks some love it. I'm flexible...

I'm not an expert on building up trail rigs but it seems as though you can get bigger cheaper on the JK if that's important to you...

Here are some threads to start your research - but also get out there and ride/drive them and see. You can't lose with either IMHO.

here's a short one

here's another one

I currently have both. A 2008 stock 4 door sahara with manual trans and a 99 TJ with 3in lift and 33's with the 4.0 and manual transmission. I bought the Sahara thinking that I would sell the TJ. It hasnt sold and will probably become the girlfriend's summer convertible. I do not offroad (live in Iowa, aka, flat lands with no public offroad venues), and spend all of my time in the JK. I drove the TJ the other day and had a blast. It felt like a go cart compared to the 4 door. The JK is my 4th wrangler and I appreciate the power locks/windows. If you have the opportunity, start test driving. That will answer alot of your questions. If I had to pick between the two, I am not sure which I would keep these days............

Well the reason i brought this up was because i was pretty set on a 2dr JK, but after having some time to kill and cruising through auto trader i found a 05 unlimited for 14000. I really like the look of the unlimited lifted, i just need something that is practical and i need to figure out which one i want to go after JK or TJ

Yea Mulewhisper i know how you feel, after a week of nonstop snowplowing in december all i drove was a work truck. F-250 big stroker......even though its a fast truck after that week and me getting into my 4 banger TJ and flooring it i felt like i was driving one of those Side by side ATVs...it was a funny feeling.

But yea your right i probably should go and test drive a JK and a LJ Unlimited and see what i think about either of em.

I've had 3 TJs, 97, 00 & an 06 Rubi, I would have thought the 06 Rubi would have been top of the line being the last year and brand new off the lot, what a mistake that was, oil pump shaft sheared @12k miles, new engine installed, constant AC cooling issues, one problem after another and had enough, got the JK, couldn't be happier...well a HEMI would have been nice in it.

I went from a 97 4 banger TJ to my 08 2dr JK and love it, It rides better and has more front seat room (big deal to me as I'm 6'4" 280lbs ). If I had a chance to go back I wouldn't.

Default tj vs jk

For a long time I wanted to get a good used TJ, but the more I looked and drove, the harder it was to find what I really needed: a true dual purpose machine. Last October, I finally got off my wallet and bought a leftover 2008 Rubicon 2 door 6 speed. It has all the amenities you would expect in a modern vehicle and is a great off road machine. I love it, and the freedom top is the best of all worlds: secure and quiet, and with the panels off, sunshine and the wind in your hair. If like me, you need 1 vehicle to do it all, daily driver, 4X4 workhorse and Jeep fun, go with the JK.

A JK stock is more capable off-road than a TJ stock.
Therefore, the JK is better...

If I could do it over again I would have kept my 2000 TJ, built it up for trails and purchase a new car for a daily driver.

I do love the JK but its harder to beat up knowing I still owe 16k on it.
