Default leason learned.....

I had a wake up call on Sunday night.
I’ve been riding around for over a week with no top/doors. It’s been great! Hot, but great. There is a new movie theater in our neighborhood and my wife and I decided to go check it out. I had a little voice in the back of my head telling me this was not a good idea and that I should go home and swap vehicles…

Well I just ordered the tuffy glovebox to replace my damaged one. And the dents/pry marks around the radio I guess I’m going to have to live with. My wife is pissed because we barely have 3k miles on it.

Nothing is worse than a visual reminder on the dash every time I get in. Nothing big, not worth it to spend any money on it. Just a bunch of kids.

They didn’t even get the glovebox open. Just jammed a larger key in it and tried to turn it…. The opposite way. They tried to lock it further. Then used the key to try and pry it open.

Anyway now my wife will have a more secure place to put her hairbrush and travel mirror when we go places.
Thanks for listening, I just had to vent.

Damn, that sucks. Thats why the best idea is to keep them unlocked, and not leave anything in there.

My friend had some kids break into her car right in front of the bowling alley. They broke center console to take a radio without the faceplate (which makes in unusable btw), about 100 cds (all Russian music), and get this, they took her hair brush, and lip gloss.

If i ever catch someone in my Jeep, i will most likely just break their fingers.

We caught two guys trying to steal my friends stock wheels of his 92 Maxima. The three of us surrounded the bastards when they tried to hide under the car, pulled them out, had a little talk, the 4 cinder blocks sitting ready under my friends car, went through their windshield, and the guys paid us $200 for trying to steal the rims.

my dealer told me when we bought it that we should not lock the doors or the glovebox or the console ever. obviously a thief will try to open it before trying to unlock it so if they see that there is nothing of value then nothing should get damaged in theory..
we keep it unlocked and have had good luck so far.

Several years ago I had the cd deck stolen out of an 83 bronco I was wheeling at the time. This thing was a piece, but of course some creature comforts are nice. I got reminded of the scum every time I looked at the broken faceplate. Oh well, I hope the joke ended up on them. Every CD I tried to play in that deck ended up getting all scratched to hell and wound up unplayable.

I've heard of people leaving doors open, yet thief still cut their softtop to get in. Now that sucks a big one.

OUCH!!

i am pretty cheap and don't like movie theaters anyway. guess it will be atleast another 6 1/2 years before i go again. (it has been that long) i prefer to buy/rent and watch at home, away from people.

the only thing troubleing me now is that i was planning on mounting my cb above the rearview. now i'm afraid of putting anything in it. i want the jeep to be a fun experience not one that i have to be paranoid all the time. if i go above the rearview with it and put some qick connects for the wires, maybe they wont trash the plastic when they steal it.

I use the Cobra 75, which is removeable and the box is tucked away beneath the glove box. I keep the mic/speaker in the glove box, but it's unlocked. So far I've had no issues and I've been going without doors or windows for about 6 weeks now. However, a bigger unit mounted above the mirror would probably be a nice target for a thief.

i'm looking at the little midland or the 75 mounted like you said. i like the 75 best i'm just worried that they might destroy the dash and i would encur more damages than losses.

i know i'm just being paranoid but i put the top doors back on, but it's supposed to be sunny all week! this is why i want to own my own island! we caught some kids spraypainting in the neighborhood not three weeks ago

Before I met my wife she bought a Honda Accord and had the fog lights cut out and stolen. Her brother told me that he would have given any amount of money to walk up as someone was crawling underneath to steal the fog lamps. He ended by saying that he would need a new pair of steel toe boots and Mr. Thug would need surgery on their ribs.

She lived right behind a movie theater so I thought my story would fit in here. Sorry for your mishap.
