Question Lifetime Warranty?

Hey all,
I have an '08 with low miles and my 3 years are almost up. When I bought the Jeep they said that I had to bring it in for inspection before the regular warranty was up to be eligible for the lifetime powertrain warranty. (If I'm remembering correctly.) I need to find my paperwork and read up, but I was wondering if any of you have experience with qualifying and using the lifetime powertrain warranty?

I wrote the dealership service dept an email about a month ago and haven't heard back. Basically the email said that I didn't want to waste their time and mine if I've voided eligibility with my mods. In short, those include lift, 35"s, gears, CAI, exhaust, and other odds and ends. Those are the biggies that I could see affecting the warranty.

Basically, I'd like the warranty to be there if I have motor troubles down the road. The axle warranty is void from the gears and I'm not really worried about the 6 speed. Just mainly the V6's oiling and bearing issues.

I have dealership work experience and have been on both sides of warranties, just wondering about the forum's collective experience with the lifetime powertrain warranty.

Thanks in advance for your collective wisdom!

Alec

lifetime warranty only requires you to take it to the dealer to be looked over once every 5 years after purchase date. as far as claims, they have to prove that the mod caused the failure.... engine/trans should be fine i would think

Default Lifetime Warranty

The LW is power train only... not bumper to bumper and it is explained in the warranty booklet and on Jeep.com

I just purchased a lifetime "Maximum Care". I really plan on keeping the jeep for a decade or more and I am sure I'll use it. I shopped online and applied through ChryslerWarrantys.com. They'll let me know if I need to do any other varification in the next day or so.

my Honda extended warranty paid for itself and then some since the factory warranty went out 2 years ago. The most recent (a/c and right front cv joint) was $950.00 alone.

I downloaded the warranty paperwork from Jeep.com and read through it. Like I said above, and confirmed from reading, basically my motor and tranny will be covered. I'm well aware of Magnuson-Moss and was pleased to see that the lifetime warranty paperwork defaults to the regular warranty paperwork for the fine print of what is and is not excluded.

Just wondering who else has had "the inspection" and if anything was said about CAI or exhaust. I also have a programmer and may flash back to stock before going just in case.

And yes, the inspection is every 5 years but I'll probably go before my 3/36 runs out just to know my motor is covered.

What have people been paying for the Max Care warranty? I am just about to go out of the 3/36 warranty. The dealer is offering me the Max Care and said retail was about $3,000. Just wondering what people are paying.

Double check the verbiage, but I believe it says you need to bring it in for inspection with a few months (think 3) of every 5 year mark. So if it is 3 months, you have from the 57th month to the 63rd month to bring it in for the Lifetime inspection. Bringing it in now would not count towards that inspection.

Homework is essential when posting policy.

This is from the '08 warranty book:

The inspection must be made
within sixty (60) days of each 5 year anniversary of the
in-service date of the vehicle. You must have the
inspection performed to continue this coverage.

They are trying every thing to get out of those warranties... I'd double check with the dealer before I switch out my air freshener!
