Little help for the JK 2011 newbie.... rim upgrade from steel Sport 16s
Ok this will be basic for most, thanks for the help!
I have JK 2011 Sport - 16 inch steel wheels. I would like to find stock wheels/rims to improve the look of my jeep. My jeep won't be off road - no climbing or crawling for me, at least not yet. My jeep is mostly a commuter - back roads and highways. I will see lots of snow.
1) Should I head towards 17s or 18s?
2) What is a take-off? I see the reference but don't understand it.
3) If I buy someone's stock rubi or moab JK wheels will I be able to put them straight on to my jeep or will I need spacers or other modification? I understand I will see variation in odometer and speedometer.
4) Why are some rims sold w/o TPMS. Can I buy w/o and use my TPMSs? Sounds like a trip to tire store to change over.
5) Best place to hunt for wheels/rims? CL, this forum, other places?
Anything else to consider?
Thanks!!!

Any style factory wheel/tire setup from a JK will work for you
TPMS is your tire pressure monitor system. If you DO have TPMS you'll probably want wheels/tires (takeoffs) that already have them on the wheel (its a sensor inside the tire) If you cant find those of course you can buy new TPMS sensors and have them put on the wheel.
Craigs list or here for take offs, I sold mine for 300 bucks for all five brand spankin new.
Oh, and I'd stick with 17's...There is a chance your speedo could change just a tiny bit, but won't be much depending on the size tire. For reference when I jumped from 29" tall tires to 34" tall tires I'm about 10mph off at 50, you'll be far less off than that.
Spacers only needed if your going with wider tires, I use spider trax spacers for my 13.5 wide tires on factory wheels. If I was u, id go with sahara 18's cause they are rad ;-) but tires are a bit pricey.
I've seen some good looking Jeeps with those 16" wheels painted black and larger tires installed. Tires are cheaper for 16" wheels, too. You could likely get a BB (spacer) lift and 33" tires on those 16's for about the same as you might pay for some new Rubicon or Sahara take-offs.
Here is Cdyspeed's Jeep with that setup:

And here is another. This is cnicklaw's

Something else to consider.

Yes, I think so too! I have the Sport "S" model that comes with the upgraded 17" wheels and I've been debating trying to trade my wheels for some of the stock 16" steel wheels and painting them black. Either that or getting some 15" MB72's. Either way it's going to wait a while 'till I wear down the tires I have now.
Good luck with your decision... I thought I'd confuse the situation a little bit for you
