Locker trouble
I took my Jeep to the Outer banks in N C yesterday, first chance I have had to go off road since I got the lift and new tires. I have been up there many times stock. Was loving the new reaction I was getting With the 35" Toyo M/t's I noticed that it was a lot easier to cut the ruts and not be thrown back in to them. Came across a Cadilac escalade stuck and digging in deeper trying to pull out. I offered to pull them out. Hooked up the straps and started to pull and back rear tire was only one seaming to be moving and it was just spinning so I shifted the jeep in low and went to engage the lockers and the rear came on but the indicator would just blink and I could not get the fronts to engage at all. I got the escalde moving again, shifted back to plain 4wd and the rear locker indicator was still blinking. I kept trying to turn it off but had to shift back to 2wd before it would stop. Tried it all again and got the same trouble. Thats when I noticed a strong burning smell, kind of a mix like rubber and electrical. I stopped but couldn't find and thing. I let the Jeep rest a while and drove back off the beach. Had the smell again by the time I got back on pavement. I tried to find it again but nothing. Left in 2wd and didn't get the smell again. Taking it to dealership tomorrow to see whats up with the lockers.
I had a simular thing happen a couple weeks back but it was my FRONT locker blinking. My wifes 09 started blinking and it had not even been put in 4 wheel drive. It did it for about a week but there was not any burning smell. I even put it in 4 wheel drive and locked it rear and front and drove it. Then when it was unlocked and out of 4 wheel drive it still blinked. I hooked it up to our motorhome and towed it about 100 miles. After unhooking it the blinking had stopped and it has not done it again. I tried 4 wheel drive again and it worked OK. Still trying to figure what happened.
Actually I need to contact AEV. I have the procal and I reset back to stock because I was taking it to dealership to have the lockers checked. I checked the lockers after the reset and they worked fine so I set the procal for my 35's and the locker trouble returned. checked stock and again worked fine. tried both a couple more tiimes and symptons were the same. any one eles had issues with the procal?
