Default Locking gas cap?

Anyone have trouble getting the MOPAR gas cap to actually lock? I just turn mine like any other cap and it comes right off. What am I doing wrong when I put it back on after a fill-up?

turn the key back to the right while holding the gas cap. then twist the cap back on. Hope this helps, works for me.

take the key out of the gas cap first, then put the gas cap in and turn it to the right, making it click. this locks it.

I've been thinking about getting that. Does it come with the little strap that keeps you from losing it or leaving it at the pump?

The cap does not work that well. Anyone can easily get the cap off without the key. I thought mine was messed up but I went to the dealer and they all do it.

The locking cap is ok and at least it looks like it will prevent someone from tampering with it so I guess it might be worth the $15 from the factory, but it is definitely not worth the after market cost.

no, but i took the lanyard off of the stock one and had them drill a hole in the locking cap to pop in the lanyard before i left the service department.

my dealership was selling them for $14.95; there's no difference in cost.

I have the one that comes from the factory and have had no issues with it. It does come with the strap to secure it to the vehicle, and it uses the ignition key.

Default Cap

I have the factory one on my TJ, keyed to ignition key, and it seems to work rather well. the plastic strap thingy broke, I could just zip tie it so i dont loose it.

OR just don't forget to re attach it!
