Hey everyone,
I'm in the Army and heading to Korea for two years. Unfortunately I'm going to have to leave my JK behind since I'm only authorized to ship one vehicle and my wife's VW got the vote.
I'm planning on changing the oil (overdue anyways), putting some mothballs around the engine compartment, hopefully leaving it up on jack stands, disconnecting the battery, and covering it with a tarp. Any suggestions on other things that'll be good to do? I'm hoping my in-laws will start it for me once in a while.
Unfortunately I don't have access to a garage so it'll likely be sitting outside. Storage units around Colorado Springs are going for around $150 a month which is too expensive for that length of time. (If anyone in the COS/DEN area knows anywhere cheaper where it won't get stolen or trashed please feel free to let me know!)
I've also considered paying out of pocket to ship it to Korea but I'm imagining it's very expensive. Not to mention there's no guarantee I could register it there anyways. If anyone on here has shipped a vehicle to Korea and has advice I'm all ears. Thanks!

Put tin foil over your exhaust pipe so rodents can't get in there and make a nest. If you are in a humid place and you cover it be ready for possible mold. If you don't jack the jeep up then at lest over inflate the tires so you don't flat spot them. I would also recommend a drip charger instead of disconnecting the battery. So many electronics now a days I would want it to sit that long without power. My opinion, put it in storage, may cost you but may be cheaper in the long run.
Fuel stabilizer.
If you have family you trust have them take a drive into the mountains once a month with it, they don't have to go off road, just enjoy the day.
I agree with the trickle charger, Battery Tender has saved me from replacing batteries after storage many times.
When I was out by Steamboat, in addition to the Battery Tender and Stabil, I used to put a light layer of WD40 on my bike frame and forks, I also put a touch of lithium grease on exposed bolts and nuts to keep the "moss" at bay each winter
