I still drive the jeep about once a week and around town on the weekends when the weather is nice. besides the jeep is almost paid off anyways.
Of course it's cheaper to commute in, but what's the total cost of ownership of having two cars over the same time period, versus just the Jeep?

I'm facing an 80 mile daily commute in my Jeep right now, and I can't seem to make the math work to justify a second vehicle that gets better mileage, even stellar mileage. Especially not considering the depreciation on the Jeep. It hurts to be sinking almost $4,000/year just into gas, but it's numerically less painful than owning two vehicles and just driving the Jeep for fun.

My jeep doesn't really get such bad gas mileage but some times I drive my old Camaro it gets about 28mpg highway and since my commute is 90% highway it saves me quite a bit of $Click image for larger version

I almost traded my jeep for a civic si sedan. Damn things are so much fun, reliable, and amazing on gas!

Never understood spending 10k+ on a vehicle that's only purpose is to save gas and miles off a jeep. Can't see that ever working out from a pure financial sense.

Bought a 1990 Miata for 3k couple months back. At 32mpg it pays for itself after about 35,000 miles.

The SI's require premium fuel....my friend bought one to 'save gas' and it ended up being more expensive than his old xB. For my fuel savings.....85 Vette- 30mpg highway on regular, 32 on premium.

I understands both sides of that one.

Jeep will be paid off in 8months. So starting a new payment on a vehicle more suited to high way is the right option for me. Save not just gas but all the general wear and tear on the jeep.

Civic comes loaded and full coverage warranty.
So life will be a bit tight for a few months then I will have breathing room.
