Need Advice ASAP about dealership mess up!
Good Morning,
Long story short... the dealership preformed service on my jeep I did not ok.
I brought in my 2007 Jeep Wrangler to have the timing gasket replaced (TSB), at the time I mentioned a steering knock. They called back and said they would order the gasket and that the steering knock could not be replicated. They would replace the steering parts that I had mentioned but it would not be under warranty.
I said no, not at this time, could you please just replace the timing gasket.
I got a call on Friday and they said they had replaced the steering components but not the gasket.
I said I did not "ok" this work and specifically said that I wanted only the gasket. The service manager said that they admit fault since they have been going through a "transition". Now he says that they are going to take out the new parts and put back in my old ones!
Is this safe? Should I be worried? I am concerned about the integrity of the "old parts" as well with the service.
What if this knock is worse; it was not bad before.. just a every now and then...
Please I am looking for advice before I call back.
Thank you.

I am surprised that the service manager even suggested this.
It seems to me that if they put parts back into the vehicle which they know are faulty, they are taking on a great deal of liability. Beyond that, this is a huge example of poor customer service. I would suggest talking to the General Manager of the dealership or Chrystler customer service.

Your steering parts should not be any worse than they were if they were removed correctly. However, if it is going to go that route..make sure they align it for their screw up at least. Or see what you can do on working with the cost of the parts, it's up to you.
There is nothing wrong, in my opinion, with them reinstalling the old parts and aligning it. They screwed up and are putting it back to how it was. Or your option is to pay for new stuff. In my opinion them accidentally installing new parts doesn't quite make it 'free' or 'crazy cheap' if you wanted to do it. However, since it's been done I would recommend you offer to pay for parts and not labor if you want the parts. It's easier for the dealership to pay the tech his $20/hr for two hours and keep it on there, than it is for him to remove the stuff again.

It sounds to me like you're being set up for something. A dealership should diagnose your problem, then determine what's bad, then replace those parts. If you (foolishly) suggested some components that required replacing, you assumed full responsibility if the fix does not work. Heck, they may even know a very easy fix, didn't replace a thing, just implemented the easy fix and now want to charge you for additional parts and labor. Never tell the mechanic what part is bad--tell him the symptoms and let him do his job. At this point, even if you they just sell you the "new parts" at cost with no labor, you still may be paying for nothing more than a very simple fix that involved a five minute adjustment. At least ask for the old parts back (though I've never trusted that since they could keep a set from the last guy who didn't).

I consider him less than honest, but he had a point
