Need a bit of advice
Hi all,
We have to park on the street at my work here in L.A. Today I came out after a rough week, psyched to start the weekend, and discovered that my soft top had been crushed by a heap of palm tree bark and branches. (Heavier than they look.) Dirt and pieces of wood all over the Jeep, and the soft top buckled. The weight looks to have sheared the rivet in the V-shaped bow that normally sits next to the back seat.
I'm covered under comprehensive. But I have a $500 deductible. I filed a claim with my ins. but now I'm wondering:
- Could I get a soft top for less than $500 and install myself?
- Since the tree is owned by the city, can I get my $500 back from them if I go through insurance?
- Any other things that might have been damaged?
My preference is probably to go through insurance. But I don't want to get ripped off. Pissed at the city of L.A.: the woman who owns the house I was in front of told me she's complained about this tree before and they never trim it. Thoughts? Love to hear some input from fellow Jeepers.
And to save you from posting "worthless without pics":

If you can get her to write something saying she's complained (and when) and that they did not address the problem, you have ground to go after the city. They will probably tell you to piss off, but you do have grounds in a legal suit. A similar thing happened to my friend (only with a redwood
).
