Default New to JK Story and Questions

What's up everyone? A little background., I have always been a Honda Guy I had 3 Civic's in the past 94Si Hatch, 98Ex Coupe, and 08SI Sedan. So naturally all of my freinds were shocked when I told them that I am buying a Jeep. Just so you all know I like to mod anything with an engine and I respect anything someone else does whether I like it or not. My new fascination with Jeep is that I want something new, I want to go places I obviously cant with a Civic and I just want to have some fun tricking out something that isnt 2wd and 2in from the ground for a change.

I have a few questions however. I wont be buying the jeep until sometime next year as I am leaving for the Army in 4 weeks (No place to keep a car) But I am buying for sure. I wanted to know what sort of changes need to be made with a BB Lift and 35" tires. Also I was curious as to whether Rhino-Liner or any truck bed liner on the inside of the tub would screw me on warranty. And lastly where are any good spots in Jersey to go offroad. (If you aren't from here you should know that the Garden State is a load of shit It should be called the Concrete State) I need to know these things because I buy my mods before I have the car itself.

I have already bought plenty of goodies and I can't wait to get home and get my new ride.

Thanks for listening any help is appreciated

Welcome!!! I too am a honda man at heart (have owned 22) and also am in the military!

First off there are tons of things you can do to your jk you will be picking up. Jeeps like hondas have tons of things you can do to them the sky is the limit. As for the warranty info it really depends on the dealership you go to i have found out. some dont care most do and most want all parts to be bought and put on by them...

1. First and foremost: It is a Jeep. It is not a car. Don't ever call it that. Once you own one, you'll understand.

2. I don't see why Rhinolining the tub should affect the warranty. Per the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, there must be something in the mod that caused the failure for the dealer to deny warranty repair. However, sometimes that can be a bit hazy (did a lift cause a wheel bearing to fail, for example?). At those times it's often at the discretion of the dealer--some are mod friendly (look for employee's Jeeps in the parking lot!); some aren't.

3. I suggest that you review the FAQs for what lifts and tires work well. It's a complex subject and well-addressed in the FAQs and in other, existing threads.

4. Sorry, but can't offer much help on NJ. I assume you aren't going on active duty, since who knows where you'll be in a year?

Good luck. Do be aware that you're buying a Jeep. Honda has spoiled you with top-notch quality. Don't worry, Jeep won't do that. LOL. Keep a sense of humor and be prepared to do more than you did with the Hondas and you'll be just fine. Thanks for your upcoming service, too.

If youre talking about where I said no place to store a car that was referring to the civic I had to do away with, trust me friends have SCOLDED me for calling Jeep a car already lol.
And yes as of now I am reserve out of Willow Grove, but I plan on going active if the Job market doesn't start looking up anytime soon. Im not picky if been all over America and I can honestly say ill be happy as long as it isnt Jersey. Even if its overseas.
Thanks for the Input guys

Do you plan on bedlinging the tub yourself? If so, there have been several writeups about it on the forum. I did mine myself.

If I were you I'd just mentally prepare myself for the MAJOR change in mpg's, especially after you lift it and add larger tires. You'll have to be ready for 10mpg's or even less. 18mpg's is what I get stock and even that's annoying. With 10mpg's you'll be filling up, at about $65 per tank, a LOT!!!

With a Rubi you need near no modifications to run 35"s - you can do with bump stops and fenders, and, if you want untouched flex, maybe some coils (better with a 2,5" kit). I wouldn't recommend a body lift - it's a lot of work, and you will almost rip your warranty off.
