Unfortunately, Chrysler is still a bunch of idiots.

Was talking to the Service Manager yesterday at my dealership and she said that they can't do anything with the brake recall until Chrysler issues the software patch to the dealers - which could be another two to three weeks.

Personally, I think it is just not right that the brakes are controlled by a computer. Anti-lock braking and "ESP" sure... but you should at least always be able to stop.

I have come to the conclusion that DCX is a company that's full of shit and run by a bunch of monkeys. I called the recall hotline number in regard to the engine stall and brake recall. "Sir, your vehicle does not have any outstanding recalls. Recalls are sourced by vehicle identification number." I told her that the recall was announced on the national news two weeks ago, and asked her if my vehicle is scheduled to be recalled and DCX just hasn't gotten around to it. I asked her how long it takes for DCX to get moving on a recall which they are legally obligated to perform and I asked why the letters have not been sent out to Jeep owners. She said she didn't have any more information.

Then I asked her about the stall bug recall. I told her that my vehicle has stalled out on me but my build date exempted me from the recall. She said, "That's correct." My VIN did not return a stall bug recall. She told me that I can take it back to the dealer if the problem persists. It's not like it costs DCX anything to reflash a computer. Bastards.

I guess if you miss the recall date by a couple days, as in my case, you get nothing. Hell, I am not even sure my JK was built when it says it was. According to the door jam sticker, my build date was February 2007. However, my JK was finished and sitting in my dealer's lot on February 5.

Apparently, someone has to die before a recall can be performed. When that happens, I will be the first attorney to sue the hell out of DCX.

OK guys. I guess we shouldn't whine so much. Stopping, Going, is it really important? We should not really expect these things after all we do have little things that tell us which direction we are heading and the temperature outside. Now that is really important! The list keep growing for me on items my dealer cannot fix. The lightning bolt warning light is back after I thought it had been taken care of. I am quickly heading down the arbitration road and have already contacted an attorney. I wonder if enough of us got together we could do some kind of class action suit. Is there anyone out there who knows if this would work for our situation?

This is exactly why I'm keeping mine mostly stock for the time being...

As of right now, your best bet is to use your state's lemon law. In MI, a dealer has 4 attempts to fix the same problem. If it is something that sufficiently (not sure on the exact statutory language) impairs the use of the vehicle in the eyes of the owner, and the problem persists after 4 attempts at fixing the same thing within one calendar year, the owner is entitled to a refund of the purchase price plus all dealer fees, tax etc. A deduction may be made based upon the usage of the vehicle (mileage abatement). So check your state's lemon law. Interestingly enough, the MI statute lists a persistent leak as an example under the lemon law.

yes North Carolina's lemon law is similar, 4 fix attempts or 20 days in the shop during a 12 month period. I am already very familar with the law here. It is sad because I do like the truck, it fits my needs very well and even may consider a replacement in lieu of a refund if the 08's have less bugs. My wife and I had particular needs for our unlimited so it will not be easy to duplicate but can been done except the 4:10 gears. We have the S package with the larger rims, track lock, running boards (we had to have these installed after the fact) and we did not want power windows and door locks. Made our search for the right vehicle a little more difficult but dealer went above and beyond and found us one within a 300 mile radius.

Does anybody else find it odd that Chrysler used the OHV 3.8L engine because they believed Jeepers prefer low tech engines in the Wrangler, yet for some reason they feel the brakes and throttle need to be controlled by a computer?
