This guy has a youtube video on how to do it by yourself.

Removing a 4 door JK hard top by yourself

No Thanks. I'll ask my neighbor to help me. That's why you have neighbors. Unless you're an ASS and you've pissed off your neighbor. Then I suppose you would have to do it yourself. In that case I suppose you deserve to do it by yourself. Moral of the story? Don't be an ASS to your neighbor and you will get help taking off your hardtop.

I had a similar experience as e0987c5t3. The weather was so nice, and I was desperate to take the hardtop off on my Unlimited. No one was around, I don't have a hoist and can't get the Jeep into the garage anyway, so I figured I would go it alone. I got it off and eneded up hurting myself in the process, but with no damage to the Jeep or the top. Then I had the problem that it was sitting on the side of the street and I wasn't sure how to get it into the garage. Eventually my neighbor came home and gave me a hand. First and last time I do that alone... until the next time I get impatient.

I made a couple of sawhorses about 4 inches shorter than the rails of my unlimited so that I wouldn't have to put the top on the concrete floor of my carport. I'm a fairly big guy but I still get my wife to help me. All she really does is keep it balanced so that I don't have to strain too much. Both of those thing have been much easier on my back. I did it once by myself and thought that I would have to pick my nads up off of the carport.

it would be alot easier if there were some handles you could add to the inside of the roof

Default Hard top removal

I remove mine by myself all the time. Never had help. I set two folding chairs behind my 4dr JK and remove all the fasteners. I sit in the back and press the top up with my hands and scoot my butt to the edge of the back and walk it back to the chairs and gently set it on the chairs using my legs instead of my back. I have a rolling rack I prop i up on. It isn't heavy just awkward and not recommended on a windy day.

This was not easy, as you can see I pulled the jeep out and the back is much more heavier than the front. No damage to self or jeep. It was easier the last time when I had some help.

One done it a few times with my JKU top. I wouldn't recommend it though. It's hard to balance above your head!
