Default Opinions on tuners

Looking for some opi ions on tuners, what do you use and did you have to unlock your ecu or did it do it for you. So e tuners I have seen like the F5 say you have to get your ecu unlocked before your able to use its benefits.

2016 and over require unlock. Earlier models are open. There are only a few tuners such asWiTech (which is factory) , HPTuners and a couple of others that give you full access to the ECU program. Of course they are not cheap.

Here is a couple of pages from a 3.8 Jeep HPT file (which I cannot use because my Jeep is Chev powered) but shows you a tiny portion of the level of tuning detail you can get to and the ease it is to destroy your motor if you don't know what to do. With these tuners you basically make one or two changes, note them, load them then go test. I still have the Jeep credits as I had to disable a lot of functional code when I did the V8 conversion. Two of the big things that vastly improved fuel mileage was disable the V4 mode because of the mechanical design I felt would fail way too early and I tuned by Mass Air Flow instead of Volumetric Efficiency. Running on 8 actually lifted the mileage a tiny bit but MAF tune was the 25% increase one. Am at 27mpg imperial at 70mph now with 2 more cylinders.
