What color are you wanting? If black, check out Plasti-Dip. Lots of guys have gone that route with great success. There are several threads out there about it.

Can this be done without removing the tires from the wheels?

That's the great thing about plastidip. Just mask off the brakes and go to town. I've had my wheels done for about a year now (one full Nebraska winter) and they still look great. Pic is of the rear tire and it's a bit dirty from the snow/salt.

There are plenty of videos out on YouTube. Best of luck and enjoy your maintenance free wheels!

sure, on my old OE wheels, I used a deck of cards and slid cards around each rim between tire/wheel. Worked out nice. Used matte metallic silver wheel specific paint from auto parts store.

You don't need to tape off the tires as you can just gently pull off the ring of plast-dip from the tire after the last coat is dry. I saw where someone posted that they placed quarters over the lug nut contact points and removed the quarters while each coat was still wet. This will keep the lugs from twisting off the plasti-dip when you tighten the lugs. I sprayed 3 coats. I couldn't seem to get the cans to spray evenly for a second coat so I used a new can for each coat (maybe if you sprayed the second coat before the first was totally dry the can could be reused but I waited for each coat to fully dry and it turned out very smooth).

Not quite like yours, but I did mine with good ole' Duplicolor wheel paint. It's held up great and looks 10x better than stock for us broke fools who can't afford real wheels!
