Default Powertrain Warranty Front Differential covered?

I just had my oil changed. While getting my oil changed, the service tech pointed out to me that my front differential was leaking. Usually, I'm suspicious of this because their next question usually is, "would you like us to take care of it, or make an appointment to fix it while you're here?" However, to my surprise....that was not the case which increased the legitimacy of their notification.

So anyways, I have the lifetime power-train warranty and kind of figured that might fall under the powertrain warranty.

Before I brought it into the dealer, I wanted to make sure it should be covered.

Here's what I found in the Warranty manual of specific items that are covered.

Four-Wheel Drive (4X4):
transfer case and all
internal parts; transfer case control module and
shift mode motor assembly; axle housing and all
internal parts; axle shafts; axle shaft bearings;
drive shafts assemblies (front and rear); drive shaft
center bearings; universal joints and yokes;
disconnect housing assembly; seals and gaskets
for the listed components only
Nothing about "differential"...but under the same warranty for a Front Wheel Drive vehicle it says

[/B]Front Wheel Drive:[/B]
transaxle case and all
internal parts; axle shaft assemblies; constant
velocity joints and boots; differential cover; oil pan;
transaxle speed sensors; transaxle solenoid assem-
bly; PRNDL position switch; transaxle electronic
controller; torque converter; seals and gaskets for
listed components only.
Anyone have any ideas if a front Differential leak would be covered under the Powetrain warranty?

I think the question would be where is it leaking from? If it's a pinion or axle seal, it should definitely be covered. Diff cover should be covered too, but it's a bit of a gray area.

It doesn't specify differential, but the differential comes under "axle housing and all
internal parts".

If anything on the axle housing is leaking, it comes under "seals and gaskets
for the listed components only". The axle housing is a listed component.

It does list axle housing so you should be good. I've done a lot of extended warranty claims for customers for all kinds of seal and gasket leaks. Different warranty but the language is similar. Just ask the service writer ahead of time. And if you don't know, check to see if you have a deductible.

Thanks everyone for the good advise.

I haven't crawled under it myself yet to see what's going on, I had to work on the wife's vehicle for a more urgent issue yesterday. Sounds like I'll just check it out to see what's going on for myself and schedule an appointment at the dealer under a powertrain warranty claim and see how it goes.
