Problems with Smittybilt Products
So, other than the drilling and grinding for the rails what do you think about them? I have heard a few people say that they are pretty durable, which I find a little surprising for a $250 rock rail. Also, what do you think of the looks of these rails? I'm thinking about them for looks more than anything but I already have the tubular side steps and don't want something that would look worse than those instead of better. Thanks

Crap, you mean I gotta read the instructions...? haha. I guess I missed that one (will read again). The holes are off by quite a bit, so I'm thinking the lower crossmember it mounts to may be bent. I got the 8 holes on the front lined up with no problem, its just those four freakers on the bottom I can't get to fit (anyone know if there's a safety issue with these not installed...?)
As far as looks, the rails and the bumper are one of my favorites offered (especially for the price). The durability of them hasn't been tested yet (haven't wheeled yet since the install). Thanks guys for the info and I will try again this weekend. It usually takes me at least 3 or 4 times before I figure stuff out anyways... I'm a lousy installer, but I'm cheap!

In regards to the looks, I personally (only one persons opinion) love the look of them and have been complimented by many other people in the SOCAL area on them.
One advantage to these is that you don't lose any ground clearance like you do with some of the other rails.
Just my
Let me know if you have any other questions
I have the xrc front and rear. I had no problems with the front and I am still dealing with ray about the rear tire swing not latching . he sent out a new lower bumper and has been really good about trying to resolve the issues. I am just getting tired of sending pics to them every week I will probably end up just going a different route
there is honestly nothing u can do about it, no matter how hard u try to buy only american there is very few products that are made in america with all american made peices. thank corprate america for screwing the american worker.

I don't have a problem with any of the smittybilt things I own... but I do have a problem with when they have something that's on back order... IT'S on BACKORDER. I mean for months...I've been waiting almost 2 full months for my XRC rear with carrier. this has happened to me with a few of the other things I've got from them. The overall quality was good but the wait is Hell.
I have a SB Classic Rock Crawler front, XRC with Tire Carrier rear, Rock Crawler Rocker Guards, XRC 8 winch, Extended Brief Top.
ALL these products you must get all hardware started until it is all in so you can move them around a little to line up holes. Then torque them down gradually, like your wheels, going around (adjusting as you go) the front took a little jockying and had some difficulty getting to some hardware. The rear bumper was a nightmare. I think it is defective. Its to close to the body and the tailgate rubbed and the body would tap on it on studder bumps (body on rubber mounts). I had to pull it off twice and oval all the holes ( I did say nightmare didn't I?). I was worried that it would slide up if it got a good wack but its been rapped quite hard quite a few times and hasn't moved. Some tell me I tighten things to tight. The rocker guards design will allow them to flex upwards if you rap them good, which I have, and now I have 3 dimples in the rockers on each side from the verticle braces. My first XRC8 winch had electricle problems and LUCKY for them it only killed 2 batteries and not my electricle system. They traded it out for another.
No recommendation here.

So I know the old addage, "You get what you pay for", but I was surprised when I plunked down about $2000 at 4Wheel for some Smittybilt products (XRC front bumper, SRC rock rails, XRC8 Comp winch, etc) and some of the mounting holes don't even line up. I went back to the Ft. Worth 4Wheel Parts and told them about the problem and the sales guy (Mike) tells me, "you must have gotten a bad batch"... Then proceeds to tell me I need to get with Smittybilt and see if they can help me out... Really??? I thought I bought them from you... Great customer service Mike! If I remember correctly, aren't both of these companies (4Wheel & Smittybilt) pretty much one in the same? Anyway, so now I've got a front bumper that I can't get the bottom bolts in and two rock rails that I can only get 3 of the four nuts on the bracket.
I'm not trying to slam 4Wheel or Smittybilt because I really like what they have to offer, but has anyone else on here had similar problems with these items or others?

In regards to the Smittybilt products, have any of you seen the XRC front and rear tube fender setups for the JK? I recently viewed these online and personally i want 'em, bad. If anyone has seen them or knows anyone who has them i would love to know. For the set, front and rear is only nine hundred dollars. I am most concerned with build quality, the appearance is more than ideal
That is an asinine comment. The world is flat and there are very very few products that are truly american. If it is assembled in the US the parts still didn't come from the US. German and Japanese companies assemble there cars in the US and give our citizens jobs to do it.
As for Smittybilt: There are plenty of threads about holes that don't line up. Even their seatcovers had problems in the past (search the forum if you seek verification). You get what you pay for, and if you only wish to pay for the cheapest unskilled labor using minimal tooling to manufacture products to poor tolerance with the cheapest materials and finishes possible--well, that's what you sometimes get.
