With a lot of reading mostly the same junk on the DOJ's website. I could only find where it states you can carry concealed loaded fire arm hunting and fishing. But NOT driving to and from that hunting and fishing spot. also will need a hunter or fishing lics. So siding with cation I would say this is a NO.

A few reasons here your wheeling on Public Property which is a no go for OC/CC in California. Do I carry my pistol on the trails Yes I also carry in an unlocked case. while wheeling But I lock it back up when on my way to and from. most cases your out in the desert here in San Diego area have more to worry about than other parts of cali due to border patrol and department of homeland security running around most trails. I never seen a sheriff or cop on the trails unless with the group.

I'm just curious if anyone has ever needed said protection while off roading in their Jeep?
When I first started reading about people and their protection while off roading, I started wondering if I was really putting my family at risk the times we have been out in the middle of nowhere, and if I should also invest in protection.
I have yet to find on any forum a story about needing it.

I've only used my weapon once and it wasn't wheeling. Before I owned my jeep, I was setting stands over the summer to prepare for deer season. Came across a wild dog that was extremely aggressive. Tried to avoid doing it but ended up putting it down with my 1911. (No tags and asked all neighbors, but none had ever seen the dog before.)

If you do decide to invest in a handgun, you need to practice with it until you can handle it second nature. It's unreasonable that some people believe you can just buy a firearm and use it flawlessly when under pressure and flustered.

I grew up with guns and hunted. Just didn't stick with it. So while I'm not new to hand guns, you are right that much practice would be good in order to be ready to use it.

I never needed it came close same day twice once with a bear and the other cougar in Washington State hunting with my kids. I think both times we scared the crap out each other. I carried a 44 at that time along with my hunting rifle my kids had 40 and 9mm with them along with their rifles. But I look at it like this out in the middle of Nowhere especially in Wa State bears can be any and everywhere. Break downs ad survival. In san Diego area I am more worried about the Border jumpers trying to jack my jeep. Hell if they need a Ride I will give them one water also but my jeep no no it is off limits.

Anything we do puts our familys at risk from staying home to going to a store. Idiots meaning( thief's, killers, ect.) are everywhere.

In Wa State easy to get a Permit to carry concealed pay 52.25 and go to the local Pd. I can't remember if Bothell is in King County if so you may have to go down town. also look at Waguns.org Great group of guys and they can also point you in the right direction to becoming Familiar with firearms if you are not so.

I've come close to needing mine a couple times in the woods one was a bear and a then a wild boar. On the street one was with a drunk looking for someone else to fight and the other was a mentally deranged guy who was off his meds.

Sig P226 and Remington 1187.

Keep both in the jeep while on my family farm but usually only travel with the Sig.

I hope I never need them but I'd rather have them in there and not need them then not have them and need them.
