More so than the car seates fitting in and getting the child in and out, our concern with the 2 door was safety in a rear impact collision.

We opted for the 4 door simply for a safety concern. We both preferred the 2 door for looks and ease of hardtop use, bt the 4 door won in the end.

I have a brother in law ho is a firefighter. He tells us that in the case where a vehicle would have to be cut, a 2 door is very difficult to get passenger out of the rear seat. I would imagine that with a hardtop this would be the same as any other vehcle.

I don't intend to be a downer, but it is something that many people would not normally think about.

I have no pics, and i am currently much older. but in 1987 when my dad got his wrangler my little sister was still in a car seat and if memory serves it fit just fine in the back. granted that was before the days of rear facing child seats. but i think if it was ok in an old yj, then they've got to be ok in our wonderfully roomy jk!!!!!

Default Carseat in a 2dr.

OK, I've read the various discussions that repeat over and over that the 4-door is the ticket for kids.

I just don't want a 4 door.

Can those of you with a 2-door and a carseat in the back tell me how it works out? Is it REALLY that much of a PIA?

If it helps, I'm coming from a club Cab (2-door) pickup and am used to reaching in the back.

We have a good Graco carseat and it'll fit in the backseat if you or your passenger doesn't mind being stuffed up against the dash. It should be fine when my daughter gets into a forward facing seat. But, right now there is no way.

Rear facing seat will fit, but it is tight! Buy one that is not quite as long if possible. I thought the worst part was taking it in and out, but somebody else has said that with a soft top you can put it in w/o squeezing through the doorway.

Unlike the 4 door the 2 door doesn't have a seatbelt in the middle, so the car seat has to go behind the driver or passenger. Kids like to kick.

funny you should ask...

it's a bit tough reaching to loosen and tighten the strap to unbuckle , but then again I'm short. Also, if your child is old enough to climb up his seat you should be fine.

I don't think it's that easy with my 4 door, can't wait for my son to grow up a little for booster seat... I say go for the 4 door, it'll grow on you
