.
Gonna order the Olypic4x4 bar today for mine... 4Wheelparts says they will price match the $147 price and I'll have it to me in a week. I need to know if the plastic can be removed from the metal part of the bumper without first removing the entire bumper. Hope so. At first I was wondering if there were any air bag sensors to worry about, but found discussion where no wires are found. Bone... you say to just 'knock off' the crush cans? So a sledge and just have it 'em?

Still hoping someone can answer my part about remounting the fogs in what's left of the metal bumper.

Yes, you can remove the plastic without removing the steel bumper underneath. Stand by your front fender and look at the back of the bumper. You will see two bolt heads on the back of the bumper. Take those out on driver and passenger side and the plastic cover will come right off. Once you have that off, you will need to beat the crush cans off and grind down the existing welds. The steel is already painted black, so I don't have any pictures before paint. I just touched mine up. I used a grinder and a cut off wheel to cut mine down into a stubby. The holes are there on all bumpers. I didn't have factory fog lights. I'm looking for some that will fit in that spot, but have not had any luck so far.

Saw 1st photo in another thread and really like it! A little concerned about winter road salt and how hard it would be keeping it looking good. It's got me thinking though, Better than a lot of after market bumpers I've checked out.

[QUOTE=bone;981654]This is mine with the plastic cover removed. You have ot knock the "crush cans" off and grind down the left over welds. I did that and repainted and thougth it looked pretty good. The second pic is after I added the front stinger bar and cut it down to a stubby.

After I stubbed the bumper, I removed it from the Jeep and sprayed it with Duplicolor bed liner. I went wheeling this weekend and had to push over several small trees in several areas where the trails weren't passable. I figured my bumper and grill would be all messed up, but the trees didn't even leave scrathes.

There aren't any issues with the air bags. Dont' have to worry about that. Those sensors are not in the bumpers. As for removing the crush cans, I took a grinder and cut as much of the welds as I could first to help weaken them up. Once I did that, I used a 3lb sledge and just went to work on them. Once they break loose, you will have some weld material still attached to the bumper. Just use your grinder and grind those off smooth. Then repaint.
