Default Removed Paint Overspray

I parked my redrock jeep in an alley behind a house under construction the other day and some num nut over sprayed white paint on the passenger side. I didn't feel I could trust anyone with my paint job so I set out to find the best way to remove the paint without damaging the clear coat. I tried the Mothers clay and lubricant product ($24) which didn't work at all. I tried mineral spirits and a rag which didn't work. There was no way I was going to buff this new paint job. I tried my fingernail and mineral spirits on a rag, that did work but I was looking at overspray from bumper to bumper. The closest thing to my fingernail I could think of that would cover a larger area was a credit card. I found an old used up gift card and wet a spot with mineral spirits. I scraped at an angle and wiped with the mineral spirits over and over again. It worked great and fast but the cards lost thier sharp edges quickly. I was able to scrounge enough cards of one kind or another to finish the job. All total it took about one hour to complete the job with not one scratch on the clear coat. This might be common knowledge to some of you and some of you might know a better way but this really does work with no damage to the factory finish. You do have to be more gentle on the painted plastic if you have a Sahara. Hope this helps someone in the future.

That definitely be heat breaker,....glad to see you figured it out & all come off with no damage.....in 1970 I just had a 1965 HI-Po Mustang painted "Hugger Orange only 1 week old, while standing at an upstairs apartment window, I got to witness a Hot Tar Truck blow a "Cap" & cover my whole car with that black Sh#t. I went into Shock. Cops got them & they covered it..

Default caution

I've no doubt that most know this but... Do not use this technique on the black plastics!!! You will get chemical "melting" resulting in graying. Congrats on the cosmetic recovery!
