reprogram key
If you still have both factory keys you can do it yourself.
Just buy a key that is compatible, get it cut.

Very easy to program a key yourself. Directions are in your owner's manual.
You MUST have two working transponder keys to self-program a third key.
Google: jeep jk wrangler transponder key
Lots of places to purchase transponder chip keys for a LOT less than the $80 to $100 dealer cost.

Thanks. I need to reprogramme the key and the jeep. U c my wife left her key in the jeep and it was stolen (key and jeep) I got the jeep back but there is an Ahole out there with my key.
Ohhh, you want to deprogram and reprogram the key with a different code. First time I've heard of someone wanting that but it makes a lot of sense because of what happened to you.
Good luck. I would talk to an experienced locksmith. I first thought of the dealer but some dealers don't even know how to calibrate the speedometer for tire size changes.

If you have only one key, you'll need to go to the dealer. I've read of dealers charging from $80 to $200. You'll just need to contact yours to see what they say. I don't know if they can reprogram the Jeep itself to disable the stolen key. Seems like a no brainer, since they'll be able to rake you over the coals for a few more bucks. Maybe your insurance will cover this (it's their money on the hook if the guy returns and drives away again in your Jeep).

There has to be a way to do this by only having one key. It makes no sense to me, that I would have to go buy a key from the dealer to have them program it, just so I could go buy a 3rd key so that I could program one myself.
I haven't heard of it. Maybe you can buy the key yourself, have your own locksmith cut it, then take it to the dealer and have them complete the programming. A dealer could be nice and cut you some slack, but that may vary by dealer. Do be aware that I'm pretty certain any Chrysler product dealer can do the key reprogramming, so don't limit yourself to Jeep dealers.
