Do be aware that I'm pretty certain any Chrysler product dealer can do the key reprogramming, so don't limit yourself to Jeep dealers.
I'm just a little frustrated by this because my JK came with only one key......then the owner's manual gives you instructions on how to program a spare key but you need to have 2 keys to do it.

If I would have known this before I bought my JK, I would have made damn sure that the dealer included 2 keys in the sale.

This has got to be one of the dumbest things I have heard of coming from Chrysler. Imagine if our JK didn't come with a spare tire, and we were forced to buy a more expensive spare from the dealer, just so we could buy a cheaper spare somewhere else to put on our Jeep. Hey, I got the spare that I wanted on my JK, but I also got a more expensive spare sitting around in my garage.

Did you buy your JK new? ALL JK's come with 2 keys. If you bought it new, call your dealer and explain that you only received one key. You should have received 2 keys.

If you bought it used, then you may have only received one key.

Sounds like a good plan. Does anyone know if that's also the same case if your JK came with the factory installed remote start?

Just trying to figure out why they only gave me one key......

When I bought my JK it had 0 miles on it, and had just arrived at the dealership the day before.

On this we've outsmarted the dealers: They sell us five perfectly serviceable tires and wheels, and within a few months we go to off-road parts stores and replace all five!

Ok......My mistake on this one.

I just found my 2nd key. It's been 2 years since I bought my JK, and it looks like my wife had the 2nd key stored away "in a safe place" and I couldn't remember if it came with 2 keys or not.

The funny thing, was that I was just out of town for the past 6 weeks, with my JK parked in the airport parking lot where my wife was saying "If I had a key for your Jeep, I could go pick it up and save you some money on parking". I guess, she forgot about the other key also.......maybe that's a good thing.

Two keys are needed to program a third one to discourage valet parking attendants from cloning a key with just one original.
