reprogram key
I haven't heard of it. Maybe you can buy the key yourself, have your own locksmith cut it, then take it to the dealer and have them complete the programming. A dealer could be nice and cut you some slack, but that may vary by dealer. Do be aware that I'm pretty certain any Chrysler product dealer can do the key reprogramming, so don't limit yourself to Jeep dealers.
If I would have known this before I bought my JK, I would have made damn sure that the dealer included 2 keys in the sale.
This has got to be one of the dumbest things I have heard of coming from Chrysler. Imagine if our JK didn't come with a spare tire, and we were forced to buy a more expensive spare from the dealer, just so we could buy a cheaper spare somewhere else to put on our Jeep. Hey, I got the spare that I wanted on my JK, but I also got a more expensive spare sitting around in my garage.
I'm just a little frustrated by this because my JK came with only one key......then the owner's manual gives you instructions on how to program a spare key but you need to have 2 keys to do it.

If you bought it used, then you may have only received one key.
Mabar
Just trying to figure out why they only gave me one key......

When I bought my JK it had 0 miles on it, and had just arrived at the dealership the day before.

Ok......My mistake on this one.
I just found my 2nd key. It's been 2 years since I bought my JK, and it looks like my wife had the 2nd key stored away "in a safe place" and I couldn't remember if it came with 2 keys or not.
The funny thing, was that I was just out of town for the past 6 weeks, with my JK parked in the airport parking lot where my wife was saying "If I had a key for your Jeep, I could go pick it up and save you some money on parking". I guess, she forgot about the other key also.......maybe that's a good thing.
