hey guys i hope this subject has not been discused already.
i will be getting my JK in jan. I know rubicon is the way to, but would me going with an X model with mods like lift, tires, and body armor do the trick?
My concern is if i go with the rubicon and i add lift and tires, i will not be using what came on it, and why not save cash and add it to the X,
What would i not get with the other?

It'll get you partway there. You won't have the same front axle, transfer case or lockers. The X's front axle is a weak point. There are some modestly priced upgrades to strengthen it, while replacement with a D44 is an expensive option. If you regear, that can help with the slow speed performance (the high-geared transfer case). The X does have brake lock differential, and with that and LSD I've followed Rubi's where TJs couldn't go (because they lacked lockers). The lift will likely give you manual sway bar quick disconnects, which work fine for me (vice electric in the Rubi). I don't believe there's any difference in an X and a Rubi with stock body armor, so anything you add (or relocate--think evap can and steering stab) will be better than even the Rubi.

Bottom line: The stock X is a very capable off-road vehicle. Mod's extend that capability, and let you pace your monetary outflow. JEEP: Just Empty Every Pocket.

Don't discount the ability of the person behind the wheel.

A person knowledgeable can take an X places one would think only a modded Rubi would dare to tread.

I by no means claim to be one of those who could take an X in those places....

Yup, plenty of threads on this.

The bigger axle, lockers, and t case are worth it in my opinion. The edisco is nice too. And depending on auto/manual/tire size, you may actually be able to use the 4.10 as opposed to the 3.73's or 3.21's that you'll find on most other models.
