Default Rubicon Value drop after driven off the lot?

If a friend was to sell a 2011 Rubi with 3,000 miles on the clock, what % off MSRP should I offer?

You can buy a new one for about $30K with normal options + an auto.

I saw a used one with less than 1000 miles on it for about 10% less than a new one (asking price).

I think 15% depreciation would be the minimum I'd expect to ask for with 20% probably more reasonable. However, it depends on what your friend paid because he may be a "full retail" purchaser which could leave him considerably updside down.

If you want the best approach, have your friend take his JK to carmax and get it appriased no strings attached - then offer him $500 more than his appraisal. That would be a fair approach if you're dealing with a friend.

Guessing the msrp was about 36k?

25% off would be 27k.

Guess you can offer anything. But I would suspect that would be a GREAT price, and not something I would be comfortable doing to a friend.

Maybe have him take it in and see what a dealer would offer in trade value, and offer a couple hundred more than that.

Fixed. He could offer a couple thousand more than dealer trade in and still be well below private party value.

New MSRP 36,415
New Invoice 34,166
Made an offer at 29,000 (20% off MSRP)
No go :(

I was sure 20% off MSRP on a used vehicle was reasonable.

What do you guys think is reasonable in this case?

It's hard to say with the Jeep because it retains resell value.
