Default Sahara or Rubicon

Hello All,

I owned a Sahara back in 1992. I had one of those rare non glossy mat sand color paints produced only for that one year-real cool looking but you couldn't wax them or repaint a pannel. I sold it in 94 and ever since that day have longed for another.

Now that the JK is out I am tossing at night knowing I need to get the 4 door (kid and wife) but wanting the 2 door.

Now the point of my post. I don't do any off roading and don't think I will ever be. At least not like some of you on this forum. The extent of my off roading is the Montreal roads where I live which can rival some of the best Arizona trials with our pot-holes the way they are. I would suggest DCX come here for the vehicle testing.
If price is not an issue, which is the better choice for me, Sahara or Rubicon? The Sahara comes with the electric group while the Rubicon must have it added. Also the Sahara has the matching color fender flares which I think I like. I do like the look of beefier tires and would be optiong for the larger tire package on the Sahara if that will end up being my choice.
So, is the Rubicon a better JK with its larger Dana 44 axels? Is the suspension better? I hear that the Sahara would have better civilan manners if one opted of the 18" wheel package but I haven't seen one live and wouldn't want my future jeep it to look like its got high performance speed road tires.

Any feed back is welcome.

regards

Max

I had the same delema. I went with the Unlimited Sahara. With 18" rims. I to like the Rugged tires of the Rubicon but also liked the painted fenders of the Sahara. After going over it for weeks the Sahara won. I looked at the tire ratings and the tires on the Sahara are better suited for the driving you will be doing and these tires are just as tall as the tires on the Rubie. As for as money not being my deciding factor either the money saved will get some nice after market tires and rims or..............

Hello,

Is the suspension the same in way of hieght and quality? What about the axels? Did you opt for the towing package and thus get the upgraded Dana 44 for the rear?
How are the 18" Tires, I have not seen any yet. Are the two (Sahara 18" & Rubi) trucks the same hight side by side. I don't want to start messing with aftermarket suspension and tire upgrades and qill be keeping the Jeep stock.

I notice you got the blue color. How do you like it? I really want the Kaki interior and as if DCX has been talking to GM officials you cant order the blue with anything but the greay interior-at least not in Canada.

I also heard that the Sahara would be better om gas due to the low axel ratio's but I know nothing about that.

Default Is that the only Diff's

Hello,

Is that really the only differnces between them? Rubbers, and T-Case being a locking Dana44 front (as the rear 44 can be had on the Sahara's). Nothing else? No hight, suspension, and skid plates etc....Then why a Rubicon for anyone?
Also I have a habit of getting bored with my cars real fast and usually change every three to four years, sometimes I try and switch at two if I end up hating the car (like what I have now-practical Honda). I also only put about 15K Kilometers (not miles) per year on the clock. What would have a more of a demand used or better resale value, the Rubi or Sahara? I know you are all thinking spoiled and that how could I be thinking of selling it as I haven't even ordered it yet-not the case, and I work very hard for every penny I earn, I just love my cars and am being realistic. I would problably be switching for another JK in that time as its the only car I truely miss and will stick them from now. Hopefully by then there will be some more updates and a neat desil engine available in the America's.

I think the sellability of the jeep depends on the options. If you are getting a Sahara With an automatic this will be easy to sell. I've alway's gotten a good trade Price for my Jeep's.

You will get the 44 in back. It has the ground clearance for the Sahara as being the same as the Rubie. As for the Steel Blue color I love it.

Default Auto vs Manual 6 speed

Hello

I have seen several posts stating that the Automatic would have a better resale value. Is that truely the case? I thought Jeeps (CJ's to Jk's) were always in more demand as a manual. Especially now with the six speed box in place of a 5. If I were looking for one that would be the case.
Now I'm wondering would a 4 door affect this meaning does the dynamics of a 4 door change what tranny would be more popular? I could see the the two doors being more in emand as the manula while the 4 door being more popular as a Auto.

I have the 6-speed in m Sahara and love it, I work at the dealership and we have not been able to get any more 6-spd's at this time because of the demand being so strong. The factory can not keep up.
