Default Securing the JK

Alright, so I figure all this talk of JKs being stolen for parts etc. needs a new thread to talk about specific things we can do to secure our Jeeps.

I park on the street in a fairly high crime rate area - my insurance charges me more based on my home address . Anyway, here's what I've done:

- Had a Ravelco plug installed.
- Use a "brake pedal" lock on my clutch pedal.
- Never park on a corner if I can help it.
- I usually lock the steering.
- Use the hand brake and don't leave it in gear.
- The MOPAR hood lock is going on shortly (just waiting on the pop rivet tool)
- Installed a Tuffy center console and cubby cover.

I know i'm vulnerable to flatbeds, but haven't figure a way around that yet. :-)

Sucks to live in an area where you have to worry about keeping what's yours, but it looks like more and more of that kind of stuff is happening.
Would like to do some kind of a statistical check on high crime areas and see who, well I'll let it go rather than to be called a racist.
But any way, looked up Ravelco plug. WOW that thing is expensive. Any auto insurance savings by having one installed?

$326 CDN + taxes. It's mostly for labour - it takes a few hours to install.

If they want it that bad then they can have it. I doubt that the JK numbers are as high as people are making them out to be. The jk parts only fit the JK. With the sentry key, no one is going to be stealing it by driving it off. If you want to prevent or at least make it harder for someone with a flat bed then you just need to turn your wheel all the way to lock.

This was after 5 minutes in and out a store... actually nothing but the damage was done but as said, just 5 minutes. I assume that if would take longer the lost would be greater. That sucks.

I all ready got the lock and have keyed to the original and will install today.

You all take good care of your jk.

What about wheels, tires, radio, winch, fog or spot beam lights, what ever you have in your jk, ect. It could fit any sort of vehicle.

It could be anyone, not necessarily a jk owner.

if i am truely worried about it getting hauled off ill put it in 4wd, e-brake, lock the wheels to one side and call it a day. I have soft top so if they want to get inside they can anyways. I have wheel locks, no it wont stop them but it will atleast make it take longer to get them off and hopefully them making all the noise trying to bang a wrench down over the lock lug it will get someones attention. As for the winch.... that damn thing is so hard to get off with the WARN plate... it would take anyone probably 30 minutes (if they realize which bolts HAVE to come right away) and if they dont have nice long wrenches good freakin luck. As for the winch, there is not enough room to back the bolts out of each leg of the winch to get it off the plate. got to take the plate off with winch

I have the Viper alarm system and it seems to work great i and to prevent my locks being pryed off or windows cut, i just leave the doors unlocked so if they want in fine - their ears will bleed after 10 seconds with the 135db siren mounted in it....i think i should hook up a train horn as well :-D

Default Viper?

Ralthoff:
Which Viper do you have? I've been looking on their website, and it looks like they've got a few that could fit the bill.
Do you mind me asking how much it was (installed)?
Thanks
