Default Snorkel or cold air intake?

I'm stuck trying to pick between the two and want to know what the rest of the jk world things. I have a 2008 Wrangler Unlimited Sport with stock 3.8 in it. I've seen superchargers and all that jazz, I'm not looking to go that far into it. I want a little more pep in my step but I also love mudding and I don't want to risk water locking my jeep. Decisions decisions... Help?

From what you are looking to do, a snorkel would fit your needs better. A CAI usually has an open air box (if it has one at all). You are not going to gain much "pep" with either one, but if you are looking to get into any mud or significant water a snorkel is the way to go. If you are only on pavement then a CAI would be the way to go.

I vote snorkel. Your not going to gain much pep and definitely it wont move any faster if you hydro lock.

Right on, snorkel it is. Now does anyone have a preference? As to which brand? Whether to go high mount or low? Rugged Ridge looks like they have a nice setup but I've heard mixed reviews.

I would reccomend the rugged ridge or river raider that comes up thru the cowl. I never cared for the big snorkel that hangs off the side and can catch on stuff.

Consider what future mods you have in mind that might be affected by a snorkel--overhead rack, windshield light bar, windshield lights, etc. Some mixes are compatible, some are doable with some creative work, some are not worth the effort. I have the AEV with the MBRP overhead rack and front extension, with custom work done by a friend to make them play nice together. Limb risers take care of the possible problems with hanging up on stuff ...

I have the RR with low and high mount. Low mount for dd, then pop on high mount for trips. Very convenient and looks good too.

I'm, too, for a snorkel, the Rugged Ridge modular one.
Unless you intend to submerge your Jeep, or expect to follow in another vehicles' thick soil dust "wake", the low mount is sufficient, small and good looking.
Minimal cutting, no exposed horizontal part, and the Jeep can be easily restored to stock condition.

Snorkel, without a doubt. i had the AEV one with a pre-filter on my 2008 Jeep two door and will be putting one on the 2010 four door I recently got. Gives great peace of mind.
