Default spiteful dealership

so theres this dealership thats about 3 miles from my house, then this HUGE dealership thats about 20 miles away... both are jeep/chrysler/dodge/ram...

as is the norm, you can get some big deals from a big selection at the big guy...

i bought my 2009 wrangler from the big guy... i had some issues with leaks and such coming down from the roof. i took it back to the big guy and they took care of it. turns out the guy that does the work goes around between dealerships and does this type of warranty work. well it turns out it was still leaking. so i called the dealership thats right by my house and asked to have them do this service again to plug the last couple that they missed... well they refused because i didn't buy it from them.

well that turned me off from them, its 3 years later, i've got a dodge ram 1500 quad cab 4x4 5.7 hemi that i want to have a remote start installed on. so i called the little guy. first of all, the service writer starts saying he wants to give me someone's cell phone number that "usually handles these types of things"... i explained that i dont want some 3rd party fob to trail around and that i'd bring in my own mopar parts kit to have installed.... he said that completely changes things and that they could definitely do that. he then proceeded to ask me if they've serviced the car before, i replied no, he asked if i bought the car with them, i said no and he immediately said that they wouldn't be able to do the work then because they only service cars that they've sold..

what a crock of shit. i can understand not wanting to do some warranty work where chrysler will probably underpay them, and i know its not a huge sale but an hour or two of labor is an hour or two of labor...

Sounds like they're small for a reason....

That's just retarded.

They are saying "WE DON'T WANT YOUR MONEY!"

F 'em.

Since the economy is so bad, you'd think shops would be begging for work.

Yea that's terrible service. The dealerships make more money on recurring service than they do on a single auto sale.

I bought my Jeep after internet shopping and various phone calls from the dealer closest to my house, even though they are not the largest Jeep dealership in the area. I called the larger dealership the other day, as they know more about Jeeps and Jeep options/accessories since they have been servicing them longer. The larger dealership offers free oil changes for life on their vehicles, but come to find out (from the service manager at the larger dealership) they will change any Chrysler vehicle's oil for free.

They want all vehicles to get into their garage bays so they can find something else wrong.

There was a time I wanted to go to school to be a mechanic. Then I realized that unless I had my own business, I'd be working for a bunch of deceitful maggots.

Here's to working on your own car.

After one bad experience with a Ford Dealership in Dallas, TX....If I need to change my oil while out of town, I always draw a mark (sharpie) on my oil filter and my drainplug. This is so I can quickly tell if anything was touched or not. I once had a dealership not change my filter and charged me for it.

One important rule: Nobody cares about your car as much as you!

The Chrysler dealer that I have taken my Rubi to since 07 (when I don't want to or cannot do the work myself) did not even sell Jeeps. They just got the Jeep franchise this year, so I certainly did not buy it there.

They do not even have a problem with me bringing in my own aftermarket parts and fluids if I don't like their stock stuff.

Because they have been flexable, honest, and competent, guess where I am likely to buy my next new vehicle from? Guess where I reccommend friends go if they are looking to purchase Chrysler?

I have always heard that most dealerships bread and butter is service floor work, not sales. So it seems like the dealership the OP describes is kind of weird, and very short sighted.

Or maybe they don't need the money and like being small.
