Question Standard and water crossings

I have an '08 JKU Manual and I know I am suppose to choose my gear before entering a water crossing. I know that the Clutch can suck in water and mud when shifting.

Is there a breather line I can make or extend to keep this from happening?

I did not know it would suck in water if shifting while in water. I am curious as to this also.

There is a slot in the bellhousing under the clutch that allows clutch dust etc to escape. Water and mud can get into this while under water, so any disengagement of the clutch will cause this stuff to go in between your clutch plate and flywheel.

Also, read up on raising your other breathers (front and rear axle and transfer case).

Best bet is to not shift in the water: 4LO in 2nd or 3rd and go slow and steady. That's the safest depending on the crossing IMO.

You shouldn't need to shift during a water crossing, slow and steady, and push the wave crest, no need to accelerate and change gear.

I was more worried about needing to shift lower during the cross. I will follow lead and just go with 2nd gear to be safe. I now understand how this scenario could go. Thanks for the input.

I guess I need to buy a Transfer Case then so I can at least have 2LO ... I was planning on getting the front axle first, But I'll get the Tcase first now that I got a better job.

Terraflex makes a kit to add 2WD low to the JK t-case.
