You can put any of the "cosmetic" junk on just to change the appearance based on your taste (i.e., light guards, LED's, wheels, etc.), but as far as what YOU'LL need - only you can answer that based on how you wheel it. Here's a link that can maybe answer some of your mod questions:

I agree with others here...wheel it first and see what you like. I personally had no interest or knowledge of wheeling...just wanted a Jeep. However, a friend of a friend got me started and I totally dig it now...I like trails and rocks more than mud and beaches...therefore so far I have been working on armor...I figure when my stock tires die then I will go for bigger tires and more lift. I think it all just depends on what direction you wanna take. Enjoy!
If your going to wheel it, protect it. Was first thing I done to mine. The first time it went offroad was the first time it saved me a door and a B-pillar. Got sideways on a muddy hill and set it into a rock. Had I not had the RRC side armor, would have been talking to the insurance company and paying that deductable. Trust me, Allstate will only forgive so much...
