Default Stupid question...

How should one properly store a pair of shocks? I've heard that over compressing them can damage them and fully extending them can damage them. Is this just something that happens when they're installed on the jeep or could it damage them just sitting on a shelf too ?

fully compressed or fully extended with the weight of the jeep behind it is bad. On their own, they will be ok either way, assuming they stay compressed (aren't some charged and extend without weight?)

I'm pretty certain that the mantra about over-compressing/extending the shocks has more to do with pushing them so hard that they are forced to their extreme limits, thus leading to damage, rather than they are held at either extreme limit without being forced further. Also, they are shipped compressed, but that's likely to save on packaging and shipping costs than on any storage need. Bottom line: Unless you need to save space, just store then as they naturally extend.

Thanks for the responses I've got a set of rubi shocks and coils just don't have time to put them on yet!

Cheers all
