Towing ?
I have an 07 2-door rubicon w/6 speed transmission. I am thinking about buying a pop up camper to take camping. the camper i am looking at has an unloaded weight of 2545lbs. has anyone pulled anything this heavy and how did the jeep do
That is way over the rating -- especially for a two door, in my opinion. With my 4 door, I've towed in excess of 5,000 lbs of firewood for several hundred miles without any issues and even a farm tractor on an equipment trailer for less than 50 miles, but I wouldn't recommend it. By the way, all my trailers have good braking systems and some have weight distribution setups.

The unlimited shows to be rated for 3500lbs. the wrangler for 2000lbs. you said you pulled 5k with the unlimited that is 1500 over the rating so my 545 lbs over is not so bad. I may be wrong but that is what is on jeep.com when you look it up. my owners manual says 2500lbs. i have seen people pulling some heavy stuff that was clearly over the load rating.

Don't justify what you want to do based on what others have done and gotten away with. That won't help you when something goes wrong and someone gets hurt. When the investigation reveals you were overloaded, you will become the responsible party. The 2dr is probably less tolerant of exceeding the tow limit.

In thousands of miles of pulling a trailer, I've only had one accident where I couldn't quite stop when some uninsured drunk asshole decided to turn the wrong way on a one way street right in front of me. Even then, I only hit him at walking speed and the damage was minimal. Does your trailer have brakes? I would suggest getting a brake controller for the JK -- very handy for keeping things under control downhill also.

so where did you see 2500?
why do so many people on here question the tow rating and then try to convince others that it will be safe to tow over the rating

if you really want to tow something higher then the rated weight then go ahead but its not going to be safe and YOU will be responsible if you cause injuries or worse in an accident. Will you feel better if people tell you its ok and you do cause an accident?
