Trade 4dr Sahara for 2dr Rubicon? ---baby on the way---
so here is the deal.... i got a 4 door for a future family back in november 2006. well my wife is about 16 weeks pregnant and i am debating trading my 4dr sahara in on a 2dr rubicon (uncc49er's). I have only ever had a YJ and TJ and I really miss a SWB jeep. mine vs. his, our jeeps are similarly equipped 2.5BB vs 3" suspension lift, 35" MTZs vs 35" KM2s. both on AEV pintlers. the 2 jeeps are about the same MSRP originally($30K) and neither have a whole lot of miles 8000 vs 12000.
if the deal goes right, i will be able to sell mine and come out almost even on the trade (sell mine privately and buy his).
so here is the question(s):
is a 2dr going to be a pain with a baby? i will definitly be putting a carcarrier/carseat in the jeep on a daily basis.
can you place a infant carseat in the center of the rear seat on a 2dr, using the anchor tethers?
i plan on taking the carseat when i go look at the 2dr.

I have had 5 jeeps now, this is my first 4door. My last was the Rubicon 2DR. We have a 7month old baby girl, the 4 door is SO much nicer/easier to get her in and out of. The winter makes it even better to have.
In the summer it won't matter much, but I really enjoy have the 4doors. The president of my company wants one now, after a business trip in it with some folks from Delphi. They all once had Jeeps, and were wowed at the 4door still having the real jeep heart. I will bet at least 2 of them get one now after the discussion.

Keep in mind that the passenger seat on the JK does NOT flip forward like it did on the TJ. You have very little room now to get to that back seat. With my TJ I could have slung a baby into the back with very little effort. I wouldn't want to attempt it with the JK.

Keep the 4 doors,
I gave my neighbor and his infant a ride the other day and it was a chore to get the seat back there. I know that's not what you really wanted to hear, but it would be a real hassele.
Being a single parent, if my son was still in a car seat there's no way I would have got the 2 dr.
I have the 2 door Rubi, and while I would not trade it, I would not have it if my kids were still needing to ride with me. It's a two person vehicle, no question. I don't know why they even put a back seat in it. I don't use it, but you will, and believe me you don't want to have to put an infant seat in the rear of the 2 door.
Just following the wall of advice and want to emphatically state: DON'T!
When my son was born, we had two 2dr cars. We didn't even move the car seat between vehicles and it was STILL a huge pain in the rear to get him into the car seat when he was too big for the carrier.
Imagine needing to crawl into the Jeep, then swing over into the back and precisely place about 20 pounds of baby/blankets/carrier.
If you really want the SWB, wait until your wife "claims" your 4dr, then trade in what she drives for what you need since she's always in "yours". But don't expect to be haulin' kids in it.
