Traffic Lights Skipping Jeeps?
Not quite a pressure plate, but it is an inductance coil or loop. Simply put, metal in the presence of a coil changes the voltage going through that coil. So if there is enough metal, the sensor trips a voltmeter and causes the light to change. Magnets will work as well.
Around here, the loops are embedded in octagonal slits.
Some places have circles.
I always chuckle when I see someone stop too far into the intersection and be past the foremost sensor, since they will be waiting forever unless someone else comes along.
Of course, there is usually some sympathetic road worker that puts a loop ahead of the stop line for those that don't know how to drive.
-I certainly wouldn't.
wow... Ive been wondering about this for years.. their is a light close by that never seems to see me
it would drive me crazy .. i figured it was something with the mud tires.. but now i know.. i would never know if the light was going to see me or not... had to run it many times.. had no choice or i would still be sitting their !
always wondered how those lights worked. thanks !
