I finally went to d status after 6 months for my new 2 door Rubi. As soon as the 4 door restriction for the hardtops was put out, my Jeep moved ahead. Im sorry to hear about the 4-door restrictions, but it moved mine up a little bit!

Also, "to be determined" sounds like none are being produced. Can any dealer confirm??
I went back through the Check the Status of your Jeep thread, and Don-A-Vee had posted the following notes on:

I could keep pulling them, but I don't think they have changed any for the hard tops since the 12/13 post on....believe they have said TBD on all of them.

So I don't think that it is anything to be overly alarmed over...it it not a "new" thing, it has been going on for several months now...they simply don't seem to be able to get in as many hard tops as they people have ordered.

Well my 4-door Rubicon w/dual tops went to D1 earlier this week. It has been at D for about 2 months. The original order was placed on 10/28. I hope to have the Jeep by the end of this month which will be almost exactly 5 months. I have seen others with similar orders get their Jeeps in as few as 2 months. I really think the dealer allocation makes a huge difference. I know it did when I ordered a F350 Superduty back in '99 when the new body style came out. I waited nearly 4 months, then placed an order for the exact same truck at another dealer. The truck arrived at the second dealer 2 months before I ever heard back from the first dealer.

Later,

That makes me feel a lot better, since I know that since december 4 doors with hardtops are being built. I guess we dont really know what TBD means. Probably means, "If yours gets built, consider yourself lucky".

Thanks for all the input guys, especially Area-51 - after reading your post I was going to go back and look at the past status updates when I got home form work, but you did it for me!

So, since hard top JKs have been built since December it seems you're right that TBD does not mean that no hard tops will be produced - maybe it means full production TBD??

In any case, I will be re-ordering next week - hopefully my new order will move more quickly even though I do want a hard top. My current order is with a 5-star dealer, so I don't think that has anything to do with it, but they are a small dealer with very low allocation, so I'm sure that has at least something to do with the wait. I do plan to keep my current order. Like Tom07JK said, my current dealer will be only too happy to hear that I may not want my order because it means they can sell my JK off the lot for MSRP instead of the below invoice price I was quoted.

I originally wanted yellow and bitched and moaned at Jeep for not offering that option - so maybe the Jeep gods are getting me back - forcing me to wait until yellow finally becomes available as an option...

You can check the weekly status here:

Just scroll down to the "DaimlerChrysler Trucks" - funny way to describe our Wranglers!

Default Does allocation really matter?

I can't count the things I've learned on this forum that my dealer didn't know about, but he says allocation doesn't matter on customer orders, only general inventory.
At some point near the end of the 07 cycle, all allocations will be cut off, but for now, he said allocation won't affect my order (placed yesterday).
I'm not so gullible to think that he couldn't possibly be stretching the truth, especially since I had just placed an order and he wouldn't want me to change my mind, but it would be great if someone here could verify and/or explain exactly how this works.
He is a 5 star dealer, and claims to be a top seller in the area.
I also asked him if his low inventory of JKs was due to a smaller allocation (relative to a nearby dealer), and he claimed it's because "we order better" so don't have unwanted stuff lying around.

While that's true -- once your order is placed, you should be good to go, providing of course, that it passed edit and all the other stuff.

Sounds like he's full of it - at least in some ways!

Each dealer is "allocated" vehicles based upon their past sales - that's basically it. The dealer has two options: (1) Fill allocations with the hope they will actually sell the vehicles allocated to them; and (2) put in an order, such as yours, into their allocation. So for example, if the dealer has two Rubicon allocations forthe month, they can either be pre-sold (like yours) or vehicles the dealer hopes to sell.

So a high volume delaer does have a better chance of getting more allocations than a small volume dealer.

The other thing a pre-sold vehicle does is it places you ahead of any of that dealer's other allocations. For example, by special ording mine, I went ahead of his other allocations for that month because it is a "sold" vehicle - there was a 4EA code on my order sheet indicating a sold vehicle!

It does NOT however, place you ahead of any other dealer allocations - just the dealer you are ordering through!

From my experience, both with my dealer and reading the forums, I "think" this is how the system works. I'm sure if I got something wrong, someone will let me know
